MESSAGE CLASS: TEXTUAL
ENCRYPTION: MEDIUM
TO: RHEINLAND MILITARY HIGH COMMAND
FROM: KAPITÄN KLEMENS KOSSUTH, RNC FREDEGUNDE

Honourable High Command,

I wish to submit a report about the battle that happened yesterday not far from Planet New Berlin. But firstly I have to explain the repeated renaming of my ship.
When the Kaiserin und Königin Maria Theresia was incorporated into Kampfgruppe Schwerin, her name was too long to fit the battlegroup tag, so she was renamed to Kaiserin Augusta. When the first phase of the Omicron Xi operations was over, she was removed from the battlegroup and became a quick response ship again, reacquiring her old name. But over the time in Schwerin, I got used to the shorter name, and as pronouncing the reacquired one tended to take too long in combat situations, I requested the administration to change it again, which they did. The Elbe-class I am currently captaining is now called the Fredegunde.

Now about the battle itself.
Yesterday the patrols in Frankfurt were alerted of a possible Red Hessian cruiser. The Fredegunde happened to be one of them. We encountered the Vidar-class at the New Berlin Jump Gate, but it was right in the process of jumping at the time. So, we followed them. They appeared to have taken the trade lane to Planet New Berlin after the jump, but at the destination, we found no trace of them. We did, however, find a Unioner Hel-class by the name of Erika. They were being questioned by Rkt. H. Lichthammer of the BDM, whom they fired upon as soon as we arrived. We returned fire immediately, scoring a heavy mortar hit into the shield and another one into the hull. The battle that ensued was heavily in our favour, as the Fredegunde's shield held, and the Erika's hull was being slowly thinned out by our turret fire. They also appeared to have some problems with their internal systems, having their belated reactions in mind.

At this time the target we had been searching for appeared, that being the Hessian cruiser named the RHC Aftermath, and opened fire at us. Our shield did not last long under the pressure of two cruisers, and our hull started receiving damage soon. Not long after, two Unioner fighters also arrived to the scene, and engaged the BDM fighter. The Fredegunde returned Solaris fire. Instead of using our cover, the agent withdrew far away, probably intending to draw the Unioner fighters as far from us as possible. This left us alone against two cruisers.

However, we managed to exploit the Erika's slow reactions, and disabled them with a surprise salvo of two consecutive heavy mortars. Although the pressure on us was much lighter now, our hull was already seriously damaged, and we could not afford mistakes against the RHC Aftermath. We kept holding our shield up and slowly wearing their armour down. At this time I received a message from Lichthammer, who told me that he was forced to dock, which let both Unioner fighters roam free. I spotted them on my radar soon, but to my surprise, despite the fact that I had disabled their cruiser, they started firing not at the Fredegunde, but at the Aftermath. They were helpful for keeping the cruiser's shield offline, but then, for some reason of theirs, they decided to change their target, saying that they would destroy us both, and attacked the Fredegunde from behind. Our secondary battery was ready and it met one of their fighters immediately, probably catching it by surprise, and shot it down with the help of a primary battery salvo. The second fighter tended to perform erratic maneuvers, suggesting possible problems with its internal systems, and it broke off lightly damaged.

This left us alone with the RHC Aftermath, which we had no problems disabling with the use of the strategy of attrition. We managed to score a heavy mortar hit between their engines in the end, which probably caused both to malfunction, along with the ship's powercore. As their lights went out and they stopped emitting any signals, we returned to Oder for extensive repairs, where the Fredegunde still is.

You can find the list of the engaged and lost ships below, and some camera shots in the attachment.
