I played on the Disco server briefly a while back and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Ive usually played as a lawful player in one way or another , but I am wanting play as a smuggler this time around. Before I start up I wanted to post in the forums and get a little advice from the community on a good way to play my role as a smuggler.

Be a junker! I've had my junker smuggler for roughly 9 months now, and while it does limit our movement in kusari space, junkers can go just about anywhere else without much of a hassle from anyone.

1. Junker or no IFF

2. decide ho much do you want smugle (small or huge amounts)

3. decide what do you want smugle (cardi, artefacts, syntetic marijuana, plutonium, counterfeit soft etc. etc.)

2.
- if small amount nice ship for you is camara (small, nice design, brutal maneuvrability, discreet, hard to hit).
- if huge amount of corse best choice is adv. train (if you dont want to move slaves or VIP!)

3.

if cardi:
- you have 3 best choices: cardi - berylium - engine parts (adv. train), cardi - light arms (adv. train), cardi - slaves (prison liner... because move slaves in containers of aby transport is OORP like hell).

if artefacts:
- I dont do that but theoreticaly best would be those 2 choices: arte - food (adv. train), arte - VIPs (luxury liner - because move VIPs in containers of any transport is OORP like hell).

Moving ganja is boring and makes low profit.... rest of contraband have same issue except plutonium run which have comparable profit as cardi/arte (but I dont like it because it is boring as hell too).

This is like smuggling both ways. The Corsairs will blow you out of the sky if you bring human cargo to Crete.

Quote:1. Junker or no IFF

This can be summed up by the simple equation: IFF > No IFF. Really, people are going to look at you like a noob if you dont have a tag, and I've found that police factions treat non-tagged players even -more- suspiciously than tagged ones simply because they cant tell at a distance of 9.9k what faction you are, so they come to investigate.

Quote:2. decide ho much do you want smugle (small or huge amounts)

Always smuggle as much as you can without being caught =P

I still suggest the firefly, pirate transport, or borderworlds transports as some of the best smuggling ships in the mod.

Quote:3. decide what do you want smugle (cardi, artefacts, syntetic marijuana, plutonium, counterfeit soft etc. etc.)

Smuggle all of it, I never run the same route twice in a row, and I've figured out paths all over sirius so no matter what base I land on I probably have something I can pick up and sell somewhere else for a tidy profit. This keeps the coppers from seeing your 'regular' route and intercepting you on it, as they never know where you'll actually end up flying, keeps them guessing and keeps you from being caught.

Quote:if cardi:
- you have 3 best choices: cardi - berylium - engine parts (adv. train), cardi - light arms (adv. train), cardi - slaves (prison liner... because move slaves in containers of aby transport is OORP like hell).

or you can run my old route:
Counterfeit, gold, deuterium, engine comps, cardi, consumer goods...
OR
Counterfeit, gold, MOX, cardi, consumer goods =P

Only if you dont know where to take it, I can make 9 million credits per trip running luxury food and synth MJ between planet cambridge and luxury liner hawaii, so long as you're friendly with corsairs/hessians you can get by without much trouble, and its only a few short jumps.

But its fun bringing outcasts to crete as an alternative food source, even gives you corsairs a cardi buzz!

Keep your eye on the road (learn where lawfuls are likely to congregate), make sure the pirates in that region like you doing whatever route you're doing (Artis past Vogtland is a big no-no), and never, ever use trade lanes (related to part one, they usually dump you out into a nice fleet of police/military...)

The biggest advice I can give you for a smuggler is never charge in to a heavily populated area (NY) with a train load of contraband. The local lawfuls will catch and scan you. After they scan you and call you out, don't dock on their planet. Smugglers do this all the time, and it's just as bad as power traders moving through Blood Dragon space. Instead, if you get caught, adjust your course and head for the nearest unlawful base.

Of course, you can always be creative, like me, and never let yourself get caught.

Few minutes later, Manhatten was recieving a fresh shipment of cardamine, uninterupted. It's much more fun to play a smuggler this way rather than just an unlawful trader.
I like to keep my smugglers' name anonymous, so no one keeps a close eye on me. Only time I've come close to being caught was when I was talking to a friend I know from outside of freelancer, and who knows I'ma smuggler, and broadcast it on system when I got there. But I still outsmarted him, sold my loot at Rochester and brought Gold. I could just imagine the look on his face when he scanned me, then made him publicly apologise for smearing my name!
