I have finally decided to make a *gasp* Freelancer ID and tag character.
As this is a time consuming effort, I want to know how worth it it really is?
What's all you can do with your Freelancer character? And please don't say freelance. I mean what do you do to seek out fun with it?
And along the way, please say how to get the FL tag. From what I realize, it involves something with BH and Zoner reps..
And with this one, I even think I'll start out with some crappy ship, and work my way up the ladder. I've decided that I won't support this character with my trader, the character will support and upgrade itself with it's own hard earned money, for RP sake.
So tell me your opinions? And help me get that darn tag, and please post the instructions only if you did it that way and it worked, so I don't lose my time for nothing.

My freelancer mostly hangs around NY talking with people, occasionally getting hired by someone for escort or backup. Or he explores.
Getting the tag is a pain. First way I know: Get as many Zoner and BHG bribes as you can (double for both), then take BHG missions until your Freelancer rep is full green (by this point your BHG Guard will be as well), then drop all your fully green reps as normal leaving just Freelancer. You may end up having to kill BHG and Zoner Guard NPCs to drop those reps (and the BHG Guard rep) without affecting your Freelancer rep. Very time consuming, especially if you're in a crappy ship (Manchester for BHG missions, but a good ship does them faster). Impossible in a crappy ship if you need to end up killing Guard NPCs.
Second way I know: Double/triple Zoner bribes, kill Zoner Guard, more Zoner bribes. Expensive, and requires a good ship, but potentially much quicker.
I used the first method. Took me around 8 hours of missions and fixing, IIRC. I also managed to do it without having to kill any Guard NPCs, but I'm not sure how.
My Freelancer just flies around, flirting with other women (herself being a woman as well) and RPing with her girlfriend, Alexis Almira (played by Zapp).
Being a Freelancer is fun. You make your own diplomacy, take what jobs you will... with the numerous blanket bounties floating around, you can align yourself with anyone!
Well, he and I had Freelance siblings. We were mostly flying around chatting in SysChat, we used to grab everyone's attention with our funny dialogs (my char being the older brother of TC's female char). Freelancing must be the most fun I've ever had on the Discovery server. Damn, I miss TC.
I dont create new chars. My Freelancer was order guard tagged before i decided to work on FL-tag with that char. So my way was very long (the kill-Zoners-Guard version of becoming Freelancer i read later).
I worked over 30 hours for the tag. By reaching the tag, first there was a big, black hole. I thought: "Uh, ready, hurray, but what can i do now, hm. Damn, why am i bored now?"
That was month ago. Actually, i like this char very much, because he owns a Viper MKII

Well, I made my first Freelancer character a few days ago called Paul.Harrison who's tagged and IDed as Freelancer. I generally use him as a space tourist although I'll escort traders for a small fee if they're heading in the direction in which I want to go.
Freelancers are fun to play because you can do quite literally anything. You can't write down the things a Freelancer should do because they are independence embodied and thus can do just about anything you can imagine.
Paul flys an IMG GB (place holder for the Zoner/Civi GB), with six crew members and a loadout of five Basic Gunboat Turrets and one Basic Missile Turret. So far I've got most of Rhienlands lawful areas mapped, a little bit of Liberty and Kusari and a chunk of the Sigmas. Once I've cleared them I plan on exploring somewhere else.
Oh, and to get my tag, I got Zoner bribes then flew out to the Zoner guard system and blew up the guard Storage Depots outside Lividia Shipyard then running away. You only have to kill guard ships if you're impatient.
If you blow up every single one of the depots, the normal Zoner faction will be about one or two points from hostility, so you'll still be able to dock on Freeport 9. If you get a bribe Freelancer rep will take a -massive- jump. It took me about five repeats to get the IFF (and a trek to Liberty to lose a Police tag I accidentally picked up:dry:) over a period of two days.
Generally I'd blow the depots about an hour before server maintenance, then get them straight after as well. On the fifth time the server crashed, so I got them again after it started up again.
