Mission Statement:

Ensuring Rheinland's supremacy in ongoing military operations and future conflicts. Reinforcing defences of the Westerwald security perimeter. Adapting war vessels towards new combat situations. Developing war vessels and weaponry of the next generation.

History:

Constructed early 825 A.S., in a prompt reaction to the Sigma-conflict, Rheinwehr and Marinenachrichtendienst deemed it necessary to prepare Schatten for the upcoming Sigma-invasion and the enlargement of projects within the facility, due to the transfer of most assets aboard Munster Research Facility, as the Westerwald is offering a strategic advantageous location - close to the front, with access to Mainz' storage and Mannheim's DT-Fuel supplies.

The AESIR facility itself is equipped with a wide range of automated machinery within a zero gravity environment, increasing productivity without requiring too many workers and necessary life-support systems. This compact but advanced production areal is extending the already gigantic Westerwald complex with three additional drydocks for mid-sized war vessels, allowing their manufacture and maintenance at faster rates and higher level of secrecy than at any other shipyard in Rheinland. It provides Rheinwehr and MND the opportunity to customize ships for specific missions, while all the necessary research is being conducted at Schatten's laboratories - be it an engine upgrade from H-Fuel to DT-Fuel; the installation of electronic warfare devices or additional docking bays on war ships.

Since then, Rheinwehr and MND have increased their presence within the Westerwald and are also jamming all non-military frequencies in a 30-K radius around Schatten, as response to the past attacks on the station, to suppress any further attempt of a coordinated assault within this area.
