Some hard-earned lessons I've learned.

1. The game is Discovery.

While many systems are consistently busy, and perhaps over-populated, the advice "Go Discover" is worth bearing in mind. Travel is always worthwhile.

2. You win some, you lose some.

No-one, and I mean no-one, wins every combat they get into. Defeat is character-building. You get better with every fight. Everyone makes mistakes.

3. No-one likes a whiner.

Advice I could probably take heed of myself. When you lose a fight, you can accuse another player, either openly or privately, of everything. Poor role-play. Manipulating the game's mechanics. Using overpowered ships and guns. And you might be right. Or it may be sour grapes.

4. Don't be a know-all.

You might have an encyclopediac knowledge of the game. But admitting one's own ignorance is the first step on the path to wisdom.

5. Less is more.

This applies to everything. Characters, ships, armaments. One character played effectively requires some effort; drowning in several characters can make you lose focus of why you started playing in the first place.

6. You can't have everything.

Where would you put it?

This should be made very noticeable for all new players/forum users. Easily digestable for pretty much any player and all of those points are absolutely true.

Ergo the reason I have brent out in the Omi's. Exploring is fun.

2. You win some, you lose some.

Heck I am happy with a draw. Yes Athenian..I know I need practice

Except one's failures. As said above, no one wins all the time

4. Don't be a know-all.

You might have an encyclopediac knowledge of the game. But admitting one's own ignorance is the first step on the path to wisdom.

People like help, not commands. If you do know something that another does not, please inform them, but nicely

5. Less is more.

Well here is we differ a bit. While I have no where near as many characters as some, I do enjoy playing them all. Sometimes I just want to cruise around in Delta with my Freelancer and smash Nomads. There are times when I like a good trade run. Heck the only reason Cestus was made was to have another BHG character available for me to use when Brent is out in the Omicron's and SD needs help in house space. My OSI faction has given me a whole new are for RP. It was interesting flying into Gamma and not trying to dodge the Sairs, but requesting permission to dock at Crete for a food drop off. I was actually a tad scared with those 3 ships circling me.

6. You can't have everything.

I have a very big garage. Got some space on the left there.

In all serousness I do agree with Athenian here, I have been playing online RP games for a long time and, as in every single one of them, some folks take things just a tad to serious. It is a game, we all want to have fun, but lets try to make sure everyone has fun.

Rhetorical in nature, simplistically answered.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

i think another one HAS to be... The guy in the battleship does not enjoy ramming and/or gun tests without asking. Seriously, its a bad idea. ive had more new guys think it was just great fun to spin the legate trying to seriously do guard duty....
