I dont know about everyone else here, but I'm sick of seeing puke green and rheinland-style turrets on all my ships. It can (and has) been argued that Cerberus turrets are too good, or too useful, because they're in literally every cap build being used on the server today. Ships without cerberus turrets (Barring them being swapped for sci data codenames to specailize further) typically dont do very well, as energy efficiency and outlasting your opponent's core is a huge cornerstone to success in cap vs cap combat.

Now, over the past few days I've been working on figuring out how to make new weapon entries, with the goal of creating unique cerberus-style turrets for each faction (or, at the very least, for each 'major' faction/house and one generic cerberus, probably in white, that can be used universally). This would have zero impact on the stats of the weapons: they would all still do the same damage, dps, efficiency, etc. as the current cerberus turrets, but simply have a turret model and projectile effect change. For example, there would be Liberty cerberus turrets in white/blue, kusari cerberus turrets in yellow, outcast cerberus turrets in orange, core cerberus turrets in dark blue, order cerberus turrets in cyan/gold, corsair/hessian cerberus turrets in red, gallic cerberus turrets in purple, so on and so forth.

After posting some of my results in discord, it came to my attention that this has already been done, 5 years ago, by titan and snake ( https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...tid=132460 ) and ( https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...tid=132793 ) and, for some reason, was turned down by the development team - I'd like to know why, whether this kind of thing could be approved in today's disco, and whether people want to see this kind of change made.

So - Vote whether you'd like to see faction-specific cerbs, and whether you think it's worth the effort of development and implementation.

Nerf normal cerbs a bit and make it Basic Battleship Cerberus Turret or something and add a 90% power core with them on ships whose factions have their own variant of the cerb.
Announce their arrival to disco and make them cost 1 cred for a few days... or something.

I think the main problem is that many of us would probably want our own faction turret models too which would take a lot of time and effort for an aesthetic change as well... It's kinda boring having to set the required points to make the gun visually function properly and not be out of position. I've never thought the typical world war 2 styled turrets looked quite right being tinted green and against the styles of some ships like the Dunkirk or Arbiter.

turret models arent an issue, you just have to find one already in the game that looks appropriate (each faction can use primary turret models or whatever, or we can make them all razor models or something). It takes one line of text to change which model the gun uses.

For example, this is one I made tonight, didnt take very long and is nothing more than a text chance in the weapon files:

That changes the visual effect of the turret (to the cruiser razor turret model) and the projectile (to the same projectile used by Order battlecruiser primary turrets).

But re-using the same turret model as another weapon could be confusing or just noticeably lazy and boring to see.
Other then that, sweet.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What's stopping em am I right? Slap some pretty faction related colours on those babies I dare say!

That'd be cool. I like a few of the effects in the videos in the second linked post (the V2 Kusari one is cool). Cruiser/Gunboat versions perhaps, too?

I agree with visual diversity, but amalgamating cerbs for a lot of factions would work to save you some time.

For example it's probably fine if Coalition and Hessians use exactly the same Cerb, whilst Unioners and RM would likely use the same cerbs.

@Tenacity I have a better suggestion - grab a couple of people who are passionate about the subject, learn a bit of ALE editing (it isn't hard, just needs a bit of time investment) and come up with new and unique effects for the faction cerbs. A simple recoloring of existing projectiles isn't very exciting.
