Seeing as double mini razor SHF's with CAU7's are in vogue, perhaps there is a need to look at SHF as a serious ship class, not the joke class it has been.

The problem that is present is that SHF are not readily available for all major factions, Gallia, Rheinland etc has their own SHF, but other houses must rely on generic SHF which are sold far from house space.

I suggest in the short term, generic SHF sell locations are increased (Spatial is only sold in Theta's freeport 9 and Gallic IMG Tau 23 base), and in the long term SHF's are developed for all major factions as a ship requirement.

That, or I guess nerf SHF to the joke class it once was.

The options are plenty,
1. reduce cargo hold to prevent CAU7/6 being used. Of course people have that equipped already and removing cargo hold capacity will result in issues.
2. Prevent double mini razor being possible by removing double torp slots
3. Lower gun count
4. Nerf power core
5. My favourite fix, unnerf SNAC
Etc etc.

Edit; Yes I am aware of this thread; https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...tid=166309
My main point is increasing availability of SHF, if they are to be a serious class, not their balance, that is a secondary, linked issue.

I honestly think that SHF's are pretty ok as they are atm (as much as I hate them). They are very strong against people who are unaware of what they are fighting, but at the same time, they are so easy to counter and to avoid. Using it effectively in a fight requires knowledge of how to position, and how to play around your strengths. More than often the SHF will just be a beefy meat bag that won't do any good. Playing around strengths of a ship is what you should do for any class. And this ship class' strength happens to be being beefy, and strong when facing an opponent.

Like every other ship, the situation always matters. In a duel, the SHF will most likely come out on top if the pilot knows what to do. In a team fight if dealt with correctly, it will probably go down hard. I am never against changes, as they always open up new possibilities. But I really like the vibe of having a fighter / bomber hybrid that can mount experimental and controversial load outs with high risk. Having everything perfectly balanced is somehow boring. You gotta have that spike that can go either way to mix it up sometimes.

Staff roles:

All I have to say against it is the very forgiving regen/armor capability stuck into something the size of a heavy bomber (unless I'm wrong about the size).

Removing the ability to mount CAUs will just piss off everyone and flood the market with CAU VI/VIIs. If survivability needs to be hit, reduce the amount of base armor or regens.

More sellpoints shouldn't be a problem, especially if it's like Theta-Pennsylvania-Tau 29, that covers most areas.

They definitely do need accessible sellpoints.

We also do need more SHFs. Maybe more Civillian SHFs that arn't miners but dedicated escorts or combat ships, that'll be easier than making loads of new faction SHFs with our limited modelling team.

Show us on the fighter doll where the bad shf minirazor'd you...

Honestly double mr is only run by a few people, most of them ex bomber pilots that used to abuse the snac against snubs for the same exact purpose. A double mr shf is also much less useful against caps, and has no cruise disruptor to interfere with engine kill, combat cruise, or mine trap. The spatial already took a hard nerf by losing its extra mine hardpoint.

Not all shfs are equal either. The Taurus, mjolnir, and some others are not capable of equipping bomber torpedoes, which is why you hardly ever see them, and when you do they've got double mr instead. The anzu (nomad shf) is the size of a gunboat and only has one torpedo/cd hardpoint, basically making it far and away the worst shf in the game. Others, like the plier, are extremely hard to hit due to model shape, which makes them even better than bombers with an anti cap setup.

I uh, honestly wish I kept away from the balance issues in the OP, I don't really care, nor do I think SHF are unbeatable, particularly in group fights.

My main point is that SHF are no longer terrible, and as such they should be made more universally available (in terms of sell points) and there should be more variety, particularly for house military as it is strange for the military to utilize civilian designs.

I don't think SHF need any sort of nerf. I do think they need increased availability on the civilian ones, until we get more available.

The SHF functions fine in our game of rock-paper-scissors. A skilled VHF pilot can beat SHF's, however SHF's are effective to function as an alternative to bombers that are almost as effective against capitals, with a better chance against snubs.
