Kendra Sinclair: The nomad war was a war in heaven. It was between vast concept like Humanity and the Nomads, over a grand plan that most couldn’t begin to imagine. That left everyone caught in the middle feeling very, very mortal and very very small. It cut the worth out of us. So now you have the outer worlds, that created this mess, diving through too many jump holes, disturbing too many ruins, telling the common people that they can't lean on the outer systems to clean up the mess they created. It's a powder keg. It's about to go off.

Zones of Australis Forecolonies

The Citizen's administration for the settlement of unclaimed non-house settlements.

Freebooter, Noun: A freespirited individual.

Australis, Noun: A hypothetical wildland to the south of medieval maps.

Political status: Dominion of the Bretonian Crown inside and outside of the Bretonian lawful border.

Mandate: To protect the spread of Civilians into the Omegas. To prevent insurgency operations against the Bretonian Navy and Corporations. To provide the Bretonian colonists with representation. To exploit the resources of the outer worlds.

Govermental type: Citizen’s vocational Colonial governorship. Answers to Parliament.

Organisation type: Traditionalist Zoner-influenced diverse collective. Nominal Bretonian visa possession.

Ethical Alignment: Chaotic good.

Technological attitude: Outsources research to the Cambridge Research institute. Adheres to Bretonian Law. Freebooters are extremely suspicious of non-aligned research teams.

Technological level: Functional. Uses whatever they can scavenge, purchase, or steal.

Cultural norms: A mixture of south-Bretonian culture with classical pre-confederacy Zoner beliefs. A value of asceticism and empathy. Survivalist attitudes. Bretonian liberalism.

Population: Increasing with the breakdown of civil society within Bretonia. Between ten and fifty thousand, and growing. As many as six thousand Freebooters are thought to exhibit Psychokinetic properties.

Ethnic makeup: Oceanian-Bretonian (Australian, New Zealander), Cantonese, South African, Maori, Aboriginal, New Guinean, Arab, Afghan, Persian, Anglo-Bretonian. Higher incidence of Bretonian minority populations than conventional within the Bretonian interior.

Political leader: Governor-elect Killian Blackwell.

Former leaders:

Elijah Scott

Ellen Pai

Tamsen Cray

Kendra Sinclair.

Description

The A<F| Are a fraternity of Bretonian Descended Zoners, independents, and core-worlds civillians occupying the Bretonian border systems, that became recognised as a legitimate entity by the Bretonian crown following liberation of Planet New Sydney in Omega 54 following the destruction of the Tombstone summit. These remote ‘Forecolonies’ have become the vanguard of house settlement within the Omega regions, presenting an alternative to the Bretonian sanction, developing into communes from all walks of Bretonian life. Many Freebooters exhibit properties that would make life within their homeland difficult; Freebooters exhibit a higher incidence of the Daam K’vosh Psychokinesis genome than the mass of surrounding populations, in-part, as Bretonia never persecuted its psychokinetic populations in the years following the Nomad war.

Australis Colonists have been dismissively termed ‘Freebooters’ by those around them, from the argument that they are thieving from outer independents in favour of expanding Bretonian Sovereignty. The Freebooters counterargue that the Independent Movement has become increasingly selfish – instead of dedicating itself to exploration and solidarity, the Independents have lost sight of their original goal to continue the Colonial Mandate of the original Alliance colony ships, and instead concern themselves only with conducting exploitative activities that the houses would deliberate bar, including slave trading, human experimentation. They argue that the Zoner movement should continue pushing outwards into unknown space, rather than standing its ground against the houses, in-turn surrendering the ideals that define them in the interests of territory and power. Many Freebooters are individual.

Bretonian Colonists have been known to bend the rules, even of their own house. They will occasionally pirate independent shipping when forced to due to contested supply lanes. The Australis will readily conduct economic warfare against individuals and organisations caught raiding colonial supply chains.

History

The nomad war hit exclaves and the outer systems that the fleets of the infected houses passed through the hardest. Colonies within the independent and border worlds were the first to encounter the Wild, without any understand as to who their adversaries were, or how to escape their designs. Exposure to artifacts and to cardamine extracts lead to a range of RNA-altering physical adaptions amongst edgeworld citizens that onstracised them from their house counterparts. Humans exhibiting psychokinetic traits, however minor, would frequently be accused of infection by their neighbours, local police authorites, and even governments, before a general understanding of the Nomads had spread throughout the sector’s law enforcement organisations. Daam K’vosh induced Psychokinesis, a growing phenomenon within Pre-War Sirius, had moved from a conspiracy theory to common rumour within houses regularly importing Daam K’vosh remains. It is thought millions of psychokinetic individuals were lynched, executed or simply disappeared in the months following the nomad war – except in Bretonia, which had never experienced the same rates of infection as evidenced within the other houses. Many more uninfected non-psychokinetic individuals were themselves disappeared as angry citizens turned upon each other in the anarchy of post-war Rheinland, Kusari, and Liberty.

Bretonia benefitted from the exodus, its tau colonies filling steadily with independents searching for a new home. The Zoner movement expanded ever deeper into the Omicrons with an influx of new-found adventurers, whilst the Independent Miners Guild quadrupled in influence and power from

The mature Freebooter movement is comprised of residents of the Bretonian Tau worlds who lost their homes to the Gallic advance, conscientious objectors and individuals either too old, sick, or criminal to make Armed Forces conscription, The Australis colonists have been termed dismissively as ‘Freebooters’ due to their frugal way of life, occasionally abberant customs, and the vast mix of backgrounds, ships, and enterprise in which the Colonists are engaged. A large presence of telepaths remain within the

. As part of a compact between the crew of the Oceania, one third of the Oceania’s crew compliment was transferred to the Bretonia. Southern Cross Citizens have retained a crucial component of their identity in the following eight hundred years.

With Govermental control of Bretonia over mass migration of civilians from New London steadily degrading with the progression of the Gallic War, vast numbers of Bretonian civillians from the Oceanic diaspora have fled to the Omega Fifty Four system in the wake of the Sterling battlegroup. Despite the very real fact that the system has not yet been pacificed by the Bretonian Armed Forces, large numbers of Bretonian pioneers appear to be taking the initiative.

It appears that the Australis movement, rather than a government-sanctioned project, appears to be simply the result of an upswell of colonial fervour enabled by Bretonian citizens keen to escape the pressures of the Gallic War.

Initially a wave of unsanctioned colonial furveor by Bretonians taking matters into their own hands, the A<F| have recently received complete Crown endorsement.

Major Settlements:

Planet Sprague

Sprague is a planet of rolling windy canyons, grassy mesas, and flatlands with an oxygen rich atmosphere. Home to thousands of Bretonian expatriates, vast tent cities have formed around the borders of urban settlements. The Colonial administration is nominally controlled by a conventional civilian government around Sprague's major cities. However, many of the Australis have created their own settlements within the Daam K’vosh digsites that fill Sprague's northern continent. The mining site of a former Cambridge Research Expedition settlement features a major colonialist commune. Freebooter colonists on Sprague have emphasised the minimal amount of dependence upon the war-taxed Bretonian interior as possible, and are thought to be responsible for planting their own food, and producing their own steel.

Planet Gran Canaria Sydney

A wet, heavily forested terrestrial world of blue skies, wide fields, and craggy alpine mountains rapidly entering a renewed ice age due to an elaborate elliptical orbit around the system's suns, Pygar was, up until recently, unclaimed territory, inhabited by scattered Zoner, Corsair, and Coalition populations. The presence of Bretonian settlement has created a max exodus of competing parties from the planet - including those who view the presence of the Stirling battlegroup as an annexation of their settlements. Australis settlements have been established throughout the planet, causing a rapid doubling of planetary occupation. The australis consider Sydney as the effective capital of their people, and of the Bretonian colonial movement.

An extensive, partially subterranean settlement, known to the colonists as Port Moresby has been established in the equatorial valleys of Planet Sydney, is known to be nearly exclusively staffed with Australis, established within the radiation zone of the now incinerated tombstone estate. The Australis have pledged to act to prevent future assaults on the planetary settlements through diplomacy if possible, and stringent militia action if impossible. Moresby is distinctive from other settlements crafted by the Australis settlers by the presence of home-brewed foundries within the underground.

Whilst the number of Australis civilians are marginal compared to the Coalition, Corsair, and Hessian presence in the region, more are expected to arrive within the coming months, weeks, and even days, accelerated by the present hostilities with the Independent Miner's Guild in Omega-3.

Ranks

ID: Bretonian Privateers (temporary).

Tag OA<F|

(example O<F=Nesrin.Khan)

Allies: Bretonian Government. Bretonian Armed Forces, Borderworlds Exports.

The Bretonian Omega colonists have become increasingly pro-Government following the direct action of the Government to fully claim Gran Canaria. Borderworlds Exports, the former suppliers of Bretonia's Tau colonies, retains close links to many of the Australis ringleaders.

Friendly: Unmentioned Bretonian Corporations. Bretonian Civillian entities, Bretonian Police, Junkers.

The Freebooters remain keenly dependent upon Bretonian internal trade for the rapid development of the colonies. The Freespirited mentality of the Junkers, along with their alliance against the Gauls, remains tantalising to the colonists. The Junkers are also a vital source of greymarket goods.

Warm: Imperium Omicronis (Core), Crayter Republic.

The Australis have largely supported regional powers.

Neutral: The Red Hessians, The Sirius Coalition. Unaligned Zoners. Rheinland.

Border tension has lead to a natural environment of suspense between the Hessians, Coalition, and the Australis. However, the Australis are extremely unwilling to raise tensions further and are generally pursuing amicable conduct between organisations.

Wary: The Corsair Empire. Independent Pirates.

The Australis Colonists generally enjoy the Corsair attitude to family, good health, and camaraderie. They severely resent Corsair efforts to wipe out their existence, however, they remain more understanding of their lifestyle due to the occasional necessity of the Australis to bend the already loose laws of the edge systems. They will still trade gunfire on occasion.

Openly hunting: ALG, IMG, Zoner Extremist Organisations, Gallic Royal Intelligence Assets.

The above parties have stated that they would prefer for the billions of Bretonian house citizens (and, by extension, the citizens of other houses) to fall from resource starvation, than to make space for their fellow man.

Non-Declared: To be decided from interactions.

End ID: Freebooter ID

ZOI: Omegas. Systems bordering the Omegas. Bretonia, Omicron Chi, Omicron Kappa, Omicron Delta.

Ships: Fighters, Transports, Gunboats, Cruisers.

Cannot use transports above 4,700 cargospace.

Australis are primarily Bretonian citizens that have been displaced southwards into the Omega regions following the pressure of the Gallic conflict – and have largely remained in place. Considering themselves loyal to the Bretonian crown, Oceanian settlement has occurred largely in complete autonomy from the Bretonian crown. Many of these citizens are descended from Sol partner nations whose own colony ship projects were either incomplete or destroyed by the time of the exodus. Australis citizens criticise Zoner and traditional independent ideology to be backward and self-involved.

The Australis includes citizens of the following real-world nation states:

Hong Kong

Australia

New Zealand

Malaysia

Polynesia

Indonesia.

Current ID: Bretonian Privateer.

Objective ID: Australis Colonist ID:

A movement of civilians into the outer systems as a consequence of the various wars across Sirius. Australis differ from Zoners in their belief that the movement of citizens into the vastness of the unknown can be used to help the citizens at home. Australis are granted defacto citizenship status by Bretonia. Many Freebooters have been directly impacted by the Nomad War, and contain higher incidences of Psionic individuals than the mainstream population. Australis are known to offer protection to marginalised individuals such as psionics, and are highly suspicious of unethical research teams and slave traders. Australis are noted to be a relatively non-aggressive people, if quick to self-defence.

Ranks

Freebooter - Any australis colonist with a private spacecraft.

Pioneer - An Australis responsible for leading a colonial incursion.

Paragon- An Australis responsible for safeguarding actions critical to the organisation of the Bretonian outer settlements.

I've only skimmed this, but one thing comes to mind immediately. The Bretonian colonies on Sprague and Sydney were established by the Bowex Colonial Authority. The latter was the result of a lot of Bowex and Zoner RP about ten years ago. Prior to that, GC was complely unknown to Bretonia.

Completely agreed and will be added to the lore. This is just Alpha v1.

This particular organisation is sub-textually about the continued expansion of Bretonian civilians into territories that are not recognised as Bretonian.

Psionics is discovery cannon.

There was no specific faction that goes into it particularly so it became flavour text for this group.

Potentially even vanilla canon if we take Jonner and Blix, but because we know nothing about them and what was up with them, I wouldn't be so rash as to claim this part of lore, especially when there's no explanations about them, not sensible ones at least.

Not to mention that it just looks... I don't know, disconnected. Like ok, they're Aussies and Kiwis... and they're psionics? It's a non sequitur, if you catch my drift.

It was figured out along the lines that Bretonia would have been the least infection-shy house during its post nomad war years. The idea is that there's more oddballs in Bretonia than in other houses for this reason.

It can be cropped out if it detracts.

I dunno what the others here think but I'd crop that out if I were you, it looks like a shoehorned particular and it sets a dangerous precedent. Its a much too convenient way of making personal characters special snowflakes, and the Wild powergaming their way ingame are bad enough.

By the way some sections are missing, like they stop abruptly.

For example
Quote: Bretonia benefitted from the exodus, its tau colonies filling steadily with independents searching for a new home. The Zoner movement expanded ever deeper into the Omicrons with an influx of new-found adventurers, whilst the Independent Miners Guild quadrupled in influence and power from

There's supposed to be more of it but then we just get a new paragraph.

Speaking as long time member of Bret Gov and leader of various Bret factions over the years, we're actually the most wary of Nom tech. We don't touch the stuff, immediately destroy what we come across, and have actually been the house to largely avoid a Wilde infestation because of this anti-nomad approach.

Also, please don't say you're "recognised as a legitimate entity by the Bretonian crown following liberation of Planet New Sydney", because when it comes down to it, the response will be "who are you?". Find another entity, perhaps a local authority that recognises you as a local power perhaps. Happy to work with you to find solutions
