Aeden Stewart is a once known xenoarcheologist. He had little formal education and researched on its own, fields not accepted by a wide range of scientists. As a hobby, he liked some occultism, and while he did not exactly believe in anything truly magical to be in the world, he strongly stood for being anything possible within someone's mind.
More exactly his mind. During childhood, he had nightmares which he fought by making dreams lucid, and learning and taking under control powers, not often a man would be willing to wish. Walking in shadows during dreams, manipulating its own mind, to get greater control of itself, he learned different skills, one day defeating all nightmares plaguing his mind by turning them all against each other.
His life continued, his skills were frozen at a level he could do a lot, but everything remained within own mind. He did not know how to make the next push, or where to move later. He advanced his archeologist's career looking for clues to find something which could be beyond regular science. His way led him to find not very known, but possible to find ruined alien debris, often scrapped by different marauders of anything useful.
Not sure what he hoped to find there. Anything noticeable was a long time ago stolen by multiple treasure seekers. Leaving only whole asteroids with very smooth surfaces which marauders could not destroy and were to heavy for them to transport out of here without shattering them into smaller pieces.
When he started his effortless research though, he checked everything. And he did not find anything as it could be expected. Tired he leaned against some smooth purple rock and just wished. Burning inside of him desire to find anything that could help him, he pushed his thought out of his mind, leading to purple rock beginning to shine and covering itself in weird runic writing.
Mesmerized by strange happenings he didn't notice as outside of his working zone in blinding flash of light appeared something, coming to investigate the call it received in Mindshare.
His cluelessness about the new visitor did not last though, as warming wave of greeting with curiosity flowing overwhelmed his mind. He was open-minded with his own curiosity killing any fear he had, which lead to him having a conversation, revealing more than he hoped to find here. Wishing to not lose this chance forever, he asked about his problem with mind practices as well, that he is not able to go beyond his mind.
The creature, which named itself the light of the abyss Nyx, offered two ways to solve his problem. It could push mental energy to his mind, in the process of shattering barriers that restricted his mind powers to affect the world around him, having not a very small chance to die in the process if his mind is not ready or unable to adapt. Or to give him part of itself, which would slowly change his physical and mental body preparing him in a safe way to open his mind at the price of always hearing others like Nyx.
Having a tough choice between dying and getting a possible small boost, or having safe changing into an unknown creature in the process, but becoming strong beyond what he could hope. He remembered again how Nyx was felt to him. He looked with its mind temporally seeing because of Nyx first establishing the connection, he searched for any malicious intent, finding nothing.
He risked accepting the second choice, having loss of consciousness as a result...
