every game of total war lags if your graphic card isn't to strong. With my new computer i don't lag anymore, but the only advice i can give you to fix your problem is to set al your graphical settings to the lowest, that should help alot

Step 1. Get newest version of windows media player. Battle map simulation is ran by it. (yeah, wierd i know)

Step 2. Reduce all models and terrain on low. Turn off the bloom and put on best textures. That way game still looks nice enough but not as detailed and not as laggy.

Medieval 2 total war +Kingdoms runs just fine on my Nvidea GF 5200. Models on high, terran medium to high, everything else medium. So, dunno how or what. Maybe get the latest drivers and everything?

Did you just read what I said? NVIDEA GF >5200<. T-rex used this to play 'Pwn da brichosaursnoob D:' Dunno much about graphic cards and such myself, but I doubt you'd be able to get worse than this.
