' Wrote:I am a bit annoyed by the insinuation that the Bretonians should be winning the war because there are more players in the BAF faction. This is an RP game people, we are playing a role in the story that Igiss is writing for us. Honestly, I personally dont think it should matter who has a bigger faction when it comes to these things. To take such things into consideration when putting together the story is silly, if you look at the BAF and KNF six months ago, the roles would have been reversed, and there would have been more KNF than BAF, does that mean they Kusari should have been winning the war then, but not now? Faction player population is a fickle thing, and it changes fairly often, so it because a bad thing to base game development on. By that rational, Liberty should already have won the war due the the player population of Liberty vs that of Rhienland.
Remember Folks, this is Igiss story, we are just playing the roles he gives us.
Alright, Zelot's post here about the Kusari Bretonia conflict started me thinking about the meta-narrative of disco and how players contribute to it vs. Dev's and Igiss and others (if i missed a category). First of all I agree with Zelot that player population should not determine the fate of a faction, house, whatever; in terms of meta-narrative disco should not be a popularity contest. However it would be interesting if player actions could help steer the course of the narrative of Discovery (if it doesn't already). It would make it feel like all the RP we did actually affected the future history of the universe, that all of our RP wasn't just side stories, that some of it played a big part. Obviously this happens already, take the necrosis, the =CR= and the IND and SCRA and others I am missing I am sure... All of these characters or factions have been more or less integrated into the history of Disco (I think at least, or do they more run parallel to the primary history of Disco, not entirely sure of this). But could there be anything players could do to determine the course of wars or does Igiss wish keep sole control of this or keep control of it between him and the devs?
I myself would like to be able to affect the meta-narrative of this Disco, mostly because it is so beautiful and intricately constructed that I want to embed myself in the history, I want to leave something behind, as eventually I am sure I will not be here anymore. It's kind of like wanting to have children... Anyway, I'm rambling. I guess what this post really comes down to is how does the community affect the course of Disco history and are there other ways we might be able to affect, because it feels good for all the effort we put in here to be as meaningful as possible.
PS in no way would I want to see Igiss feel like he has to forfeit any creative control he is not comfortable giving up. Igiss is who brought us all here and deserves whatever measure of control he wants (normally I would say within reason but somehow I doubt Igiss is often unreasonable).
PPS Don't hurt me, I just wanna talk about it. *hides in a bunker and hopes the bombs dont start falling*
To a large extent I think it's just what Igiss wants. However, if you organize large story-driven events and develop the story on your own, it is inevitable that the people in charge will notice and be influenced by it.
