Natio Octavarium
Office of the Consul

Good Morning,

Eight months ago, representatives of four nations came together in the spirit of peace to sign the Leviathan Accords, hopeful that we could end the long years of war in the Tau region and lay the foundation for a better future. Events in the following months proved that my hopes were not misplaced. Words and diplomacy took the place of weapons and soldiers. Trade convoys replaced military battlegroups. Borders were decided by treaties, not by offensives and counteroffensives. Though many across Sirius were sceptical, the long process of healing had truly begun.

The newfound peace in the Taus has unfortunately not lasted. The Kusari Empire, through their invasion of Tau-31 and offensives into Gallia, has once again brought the spectre of war upon a region that was finally finding a well-deserved peace. Since that time, the Octavarian Senate has been debating our response to these events.

Though the decision was not easy to reach, we now stand unified in our condemnation of the Kusari Empire's actions. As of 0830 Canberra Station Time, under the authority of the Senate and People of Natio Octavarium, I declare that a state of war exists between Natio Octavarium and the Reformed Empire of Kusari. Though we do not want a war with any house government, Kusari's actions in the Tau-31 system against our allies in the Crayter Republic, as well as KNF forces firing on ships of the Fourth Octavarium Fleet, have regrettably made war inevitable. This state of war will continue until the Kusari Empire returns all Crayterian holdings, halts all offensive activities past Tau-29, and comes to the negotiating table in the spirit of peaceful cooperation.

Per usual, we find ourselves in the middle. Our past dealings with Kusari, Bretonia and Gallia have been less than pleasant. We address them with respect only to get tongue lashed how "we're lucky to still have a base to call home" and that "it's our system." For now, we fly patrols in the Taus not to monitor the conflict as quite honestly, we could care less about everyone's territorial agenda but to ensure the safety of Zoner traders through the system. We keep to ourselves and intend to keep doing so, giving a safe place for traders to stop for a meal, something to eat and maybe a place to sleep for the night.

That said, Mr. Riley, if people want neutral ground in which to hold talks, I will make available a conference room here since Freeport 6 is a neutral site and fairly central to all parties concerned. For now, we will continue our routes in hopes that cooler heads prevail.

Commander Blaine Chara
Administrator, Freeport 6

TO NATIO OCTAVARIUM

侯爵島森正仁

Esteemed representatives of Natio Octavarium,

Konnichiwa. I am koushaku (//marquess) Masahito of imperial Shimamori clan. It is with grief that I am reading the news of yet another war my sokoku (//Motherland) got itself into. I do, however, understand the reasoning behind your decision as the war that the Reformed Empire of Kusari had declared on the Confederacy of Gallia is indeed ill-grounded and dishonourable. Availing the opportunity, I would like to ask the representatives of Natio Octavarium and their Crayterian allies to refrain from attacking Kusarian civilians. The declaration of this unjust war has unveiled the predatory motives of Kusarian topmost political establishment and its lack of communication with the population of Kusari. Their misdeeds is what drives your State into this war, but not the civilian population that is neither accomplice or bystander to this conflict but rather another victim that will suffer the consequence of yet another war for such a short span of time.

This having been said, I hope your armed forces will fight with honour and not violate internationally recognised rules of war. At the moment I am trying to figure out how to start the peace negotiations and lobby the idea of peace within the Kusari. I might be reaching to you soon with that regard. In case you might have a need to reach me, I will leave the contacts to you my personal office.

I bid you well and hope that this conflict will be resolved with the least blood spilled and as soon as possible.

With respect,
Koshaku Shimamori Masahito

Foreign Affairs Minister- Toshinori Kojirou

To the esteemed Consul

I bid you good day. The Reformed Empire of Kusari has received your public declaration, and commends your abidance to the diplomatic protocols. Since your organization and whatever nation you allegedly represent are up to now unknown to us in any formal manner, we are comfortable to oblige to your statements by registering your Natio Octavarium organization on the not small list of Non-state hostile organizations of the Kusari diplomatic records.

Expected consequences of such change will occur, elementary.

With cold but cordial regards,
Toshinori Kojirou
Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Crayter Republic recognizes the shared values of Natio Octavarium in this pivotal moment, and greatly appreciates this support in conflict against this unwarranted aggression by the imperialists of the Kusari Empire. We, the Crayter Republic, will once more affirm our disdain for the actions of the Kusari Empire. These acts of unbridled hostilities remain fully unjustified, and will be responded to in the only way it deserves.

We wish to reinforce Consul Riley's insistence on a diplomatic endeavour, and should the Kusari Empire realize the futility and shortsightedness of their work, we will gladly take part in peaceful negotiations. Until common sense once more graces the halls of the Empire's governmental structure, however, the Taus will once more pay the price for the wanton greed of imperialist ambitions.
