Last night I found myself thinking about a new RP character I could play on this server. I am not sure if anyone has done anything similar but I shall post here for feedback and comments. Constructive criticism only please. Any inflammatory or sarcastic posters will be dealt with by a severe finger waggle with extreme prejudice. :nono:
(Theoretical Situation)
With the increase in heavy traffic to Planet Manhatten recently the Port authority is finding itself overwhelmed and undermanned. Certain bleeding heart do-gooders have also pointed out the damage being done to the planets atmosphere is above acceptable levels and measures need to be takine to reduce emmissions and pollution. In addition Manhatten space port is always busy and resulting turnaround delays have been blamed for recent breaches of health and safety procedures.
(Solution)
Introducing Cargo-Tug-[MH107]. A new initiative implemented by the Port authority to reduce the number of ships requiring access to moorings and spaceport facilities. Cargo tugs maintain a position beyond the docking ring and await incoming transports, frieghters etc. Upon recieving a request it will dock with said ship and remove as much cargo as is capable. This cargo is ferried to the planets surface and sold, the proceeds of sale being sent immediately to the waiting vesel. Rinse and repeat as needed. In reverse, a ship can place an order with the cargo tug for a specific cargo to be brought out to it. The ship could even make this request before reaching the station to ensure its cargo is waiting for it on arrival. The necessary funds for purchase should be forwarded to the tug. Note that the cargo tug carries no credits of its own. Thsi makes the transfer of profits less confusing and easier to calculate (GSE maths for me, what can i tell ya). Even though the pilots of cargo tugs are paid by the port authority it is considered polite to offer a small handling tip for services. Polite, but not mandatory.
(Note)
Ok so thats the idea. Obvioulsy it requires a degree of trust on the part of the frieghter captains to work effectively but of course any tug pilot ripping you off would more than likely be sanctioned immediately. On the topic of RP the tug will undoutably be a heavy lifter, what I cant decide on is ID and IFF for the tug. Having police IFF does not seem right as the vessel is non-combatant and can hardly be expected to chase down criminals. Then again, manhatten is a police base etc. I would of thought a civ id would be useable as it is highly unlikely this character will reach level 40 if handled correctly. Also a Civ id would add the possiblity to take bribes for turning a blind eye to cetain cargo types.
Anythoughts on the above?
EDIT Start of post edited to conform with apparent lack of sense of humour pravailant on forum :)

Apart from the too much info thing,
a very interesting concept. I believe it'd be good for some more RP depth, although you'll have to have a bit of faith and trust the lifter pilot.
Also, perhaps you can pay a small percentage, like 5%, to the lifter pilot, for his trouble.

Yes thats understandable. What I thought of doing was posting some kind of open disclaimer to say that I would submit to any sanction if it was proved that I breached the trust of a pilot by ripping him off. I guess the answer maybe to ask for special RP status for the character so that he has specific rules he has to abide by.

Something I would suggest is if you are going to go to the trouble of such an RP and only to do it on Manhattan is abit off. With the introduction of the new ship the "Barge" I would suggest doing something like what you have said and just do that out in the middle of no where.

Unlike me, I'm pro at making it look like I actually have an opinion on the topic.
Except in this post.
I'm feeling rebellious.

Firstly, I choose manhatten merely as a starting point to test the character really. And it is my experience that there are usually a lot of ships sitting around or passing through.
Secondly, It stands to reason that it would be the busier ports that employ such a procedure. Doing it 'out in the middle of nowhere' makes less sense to me. And I dont really want to spend my time sat waiting for the occaisonal punter to happen buy.
That said however, it is feasible that I cold create seperate tugs for each house major port etc. If you were wanting a transfer at say the ring, all you have to do is message anyonline tug pilot and he can have the appropriate tug prepped and waiting (ie, switch chars). It is also possible that the service could be made system wide. The tug can toddle off and collect goods from any station or dock in the system and ferry it back to the waiting ship at Manhatten or whatever.
