With a return to status quo ante bellum in the Sigmas, outside observers might make the mistake of assuming a return to normalcy and quiet between the gas clouds. The situation above Kurile, however, dictates anything but; the occupation undertaken by the GMG was in a state of flux before the surprise and ultimately futile invasion by Rheinland; now, it falls to the protectors and marshals of the Guild to attempt to keep the free flow of construction materials and personnel secure from the likes of the Outcasts and Corsairs alike. The once-rapidly evolving situation throughout the Sigmas had been reduced to rote patrol and escort, punctuated with skirmishes with the same forces almost on schedule.
On August the 22nd of 827 A.S., a wing of GMG strikecraft departed Kurile orbit, hoping to rendezvous with hired transporters at the jump-gate to Sigma-19. As expected, they were quickly targeted by a Maltese attack group, their dagger-shaped ships cutting out of the clouds toward them. The only twist that could be offered was what came through the gate to greet them - the carved-open burning wreck of a Kamome, "escorted" by several Samura thugs - or more accurately, Hogosha fighter craft augmented with Farmer's Alliance strike vessels. The squadrons quickly broke apart and collided in the shadow of Kurile, a knife fight on the edge of the Kunashir.
For any other squadron, this would've been a surprising start to a terrifying fight for survival. But as a certain Mister Ravis would sometimes put it: "same shit, different day."
