I want time in the Discovery story to progress at a 2:1 rate with real time, as opposed to the current 1:1. This would alleviate problems such as how something might be achieved more quickly than is reasonable, such as rebuilding fleets or stations (e.g. Portsmouth Shipyard) in too short a time, as well as make things that are happening too slowly happen quicker, such as redeployment of battleships or the conclusion of wars (e.g. Rheinland civil war) or even the start of new ones.

This would mean every year in real time is two years in Discovery, rather than one.

It gives us more room to do things and advance the game, and let's face it, we don't have the luxury of time these days, owing to the age of this game. We could potentially even go higher than 2:1, but must be very careful not to overdo it. 2:1 is a good starting point to test the waters. I am not suggesting this is the answer to all of the world's problems, but that it would at least be an improvement to our mod.

I've already raised this in the story dev chat but I'd like to know what everyone thinks of this. Please share.

You don't need to speed time up to speed processes up, just figure out some sci-fi for fast construction, repair, ship printing. We have nanobots since vanilla and 3d printing irl since the 21st century. Get creative, you are a story dev after all, aren't you?

Or stop releasing story in every balance or fix patch and have it as a separate release.

And with each release say how much time has passed (sun)

I agree with Thyrzul. Changing game time from 1:1 would also just be confusing for character RP.

I've never been a fan of the 1:1 thing, but it makes sense from a gameplay perspective and I don't think that should be changed. It'd be too much of a hassle keeping track of InRP dates for ongoing roleplays, so a 2:1 would just end up inconvenience everyone all the time, just for the sake of one or two big story drops a year.

Given the general flow of disco's story throughout different dev cycles, tying actual plot points to real time in any way has never served as anything but a hindrance. So imho the 1:1 should be kept for the sake of ongoing roleplay convenicence, and as for progressing the major plot points, it'd serve the mod much better if the story was taken in "chapters" instead, with the set up of each plot element taking place in game and in real time, then the pay off coming with the next "chapter" and with whatever time-jump is sensible.

To use a recent example: If there was a 10 year jump in the ingame date after end of Gallic war, the now-recovering Bretonia and also the drastic shift with Gallia's internal politics would've been far less jarring (and could've potentially been set up in a more interesting way too), but because of the 1:1 time, overnight Gallia goes from this monstrosity that's swallowing half of Sirius, to just a bunch of outcasts who're lurking in Gallia-Bretonia borders causing no more trouble than Mollys.

Kusari's imperial vs republican civil war ended overnight with a fusion and a mixed government as a result, even without a 4-month transitional period, and I don't recall any significant outcry about it from anyone, which is why I never really understood the confusion and complaints about Gallia pulling something similar with slightly more realistic timeframes than that. Seems too double-standardy to me.

Thyrzul, half of hist post is just screeching with 'delete Gallia' vibes.

Dunno, 2:1 seems better for me, as well as separation of story patches from the balance and hotfixes/major changes to systems, not related to story changes

I think that instead of doing 2:1 we could advance a year with every major version alongside every real-life year. That's definitely one way to make things progress a little faster. I suggested that a long time ago and I think it was done one alongside one of the updates five-or-so years ago.

We had inRP years advancing with mod updates back when the team did massive updates and couldn't guarantee they introduce a new one every year, which is how we ended up with one inRP year happening for two iRL years, and that's also why the staff decided to switch to the current synchronisation four months before you joined Disco.

That's not what I'm referring to.

When I joined disco the disco-years already advanced the same way as real-years, but there was one update that also advanced the disco-year. That's what I'm suggesting - to continue with the real-year advancing the disco-year (+1 A.S. on every January 1st) but also combine it with +1 A.S. every time a new major update is released.
