I can't believe it.

I really started to hate Need For Speed. I never really liked it, even though I played it due to the lack of another game. I enjoyed parts of it. But what bit me, was that I had a powerful video card in my system that was yawning at it.

So I found GRID on Trade me for 10 dollars (YES! 10 dollars! That is about 4.90 USD)

It is fantastic. I can play everything on high in my screens native resolution (1440 x 900) and I can enable 8x anti-aliasing without any problems at all)

Every time I crash, I can't help but play it over, and over, and over again....and AGAIN because it looks so awesome! For once I found a game that wasn't hell bent on drifting and tuners and stupid part upgrades and stuff like that. I found a REAL racing simulator, that looks real. It is visually stunning!

I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys racing. Multilplayer is great too!

EDIT: And when I log in every time I boot the game up, I'm greeted by my first name!

a good ra game is also ..live for speed... a project that was mostly about realism, if you like that. its not looking all too great though but its a rather seriuos simulation. i think you can download it for free or at least some part of it for free. its open source i believe

Thanks Jinx.

I tried it last night, and I still think GRID is better over-all. It is a great game for a freebe though. I'm sure it will get improved over time.

So far, the thing I like most about GRID is the lighting effects and detail of all the vehicles. I have never seen a game with such attention to detail, graphics and gameplay!:shok:

I, also hate the Need for Speed series... they peaked at Most Wanted, but I gave up at ProStreet. They tried to make it less arcade-ish, and failed miserably.

I've never played GRID... is it similar to the Gran Turismo series?

None of these games - NFS, GRID etc are real Sims, they're still Arcadish...
They 'appear' to be sims by providing some degree of realism, but they are far from realistic. All of them were designed to be playable by almost anyone... Sims are harder to play and have very limited audience - especially F1 sims.

If you want to try some real sims try rFactor, F1 99-02, BMW M3 Challenge, GT Legends & GTR2
There are plenty of mods available for rFactor and GTR including realistic F1 2006 mod for rFactor.
The cars just behave as is, you press the brake too hard - the wheels lock up, floor the pedal too soon after a corner the car bottoms and you loose traction - you end up pointing the wrong way.... Fun to drive:)

To get a feel - BMW M3 Challenge is a freeware by Blimey, try that for a Sim, it's really good. I'm waiting for the Ferari project from the same guys, it should be awesome...

BMW M3 challenge was good, but the online play sucked!

GRID is the most realistic racing simulator I have ever played, hands down. Crazy Taxie is an arcade game. GRID is not.

And yes, it is similar to the Grand Turismo series. I wish they would bring out a PC version!

Perhaps you haven't played rFactor then:)

Here read this
GRID Review
The title says it all - "Grid is a classy arcade racing game, providing enough depth and variety to satisfy any fan of the genre."
It's a good game with good gfx and playability, but it's not a sim...

It's a game from Codemasters... and like any racing game from that stable it cannot be a simulator - their engine simply wasn't designed to do that !

Sim Bin on the other hand has a very good simulator engine, so does ISI.

If I'm driving, the cock-pit looks real, the crashes look real, I can play with computer drivers and the tracks are carbon copies of the real thing....

In my head, that is what I class as a simulator. The fact that it is an arcadeish type game is a bonus.

Hell, it just receives win for using my first name, what other game can do that? Name one!

Grid certainly isn't as realistic as the GT series, but it's still quite realistic for a 'fun' game of it's type. Cars handle realistically, the physics is realistic (except for a few bugs) and the graphics are just beautiful.
The graphics do come at a price though, in the form of a whopping 10GB of hard drive space.
