Subject: Paperwork Pushing

"Well, who woulda thought in just a few months a random pen dawning on a bar napkin woulda turned into a mountain of paperwork" he leaned off screen momentarily and returned, a cocktail of some kind in hand "And then" he paused taking a sip, "and then, you gotta manage the crew" another pause another sip. "I could go on." the door chimed, cutting him off. Sighing loudly "Enter" he called off screen. "Sir? There's been another incident" an unknown male voice interjected "What sort of incident?" the other voice hesitated for a moment. "Well uhh, I think""Terry, I don't pay you to think, I pay you to do, actually I pay you to be a benevolent barrier" He stopped speaking suddenly and then gestured to the screen. "You literally caught me pre-rant, get. to. the. point.". "Well, sir, last time..." "Last time the waste reclamation system failed and you reported to me" he paused and raised his voice an octave "IN PERSON, covered head to toe""I mean it looks like they got it out of the floor.""That's the problem Terry, WE DIDN'T"

There was quite a long moment of silence

"I don't follow.""Of course not, okay, Terry, buddy, pal, friend, if you would have noticed when you knocked on the door""I actually pressed the buzzer"

There was another moment of silence

"This isn't my office Terry""But you're here in it""Eris Damnit Terry, its my office NOW, it was John's.""The First Mate?""Yep""The, big, scary, man?""The very same. In fact he's right next door, in my old office. The one you ruined.""Oh, have you told him yet.""Actually no, but thanks for volunteering.""I uh, don't think.""That's right Terry, make sure to practice that excuse when your telling John why his new office smells so bad.""But there's this other incident""Awe geeze what Terry, what, what now?""We've uh, run out of Vodka.""Nope, not my problem, go tell John, and make sure to tell John about the Vodka shortage first and the fact that he gets my shit stained office second.""But I thought you said this was your office""Get. Out."

He made eye contact with the camera once again, rolling his eyes while doing so. "Like I said. I could go on, but I'm not. End Log"

Subject: Turnaround Day

"Welcome to turnaround day. The format of this log is going to be a wee bit different. I'll be followed today by my camera man Terry, say hi Terry." There was a slight pause, the din of the workers moving hoverboards in the background made the hall more crowded than it actually was. "Uh, Hi..." "That's quite enough out of you. So like I said different format. Cait wants an in-depth look at what we do around here in a documentary format. I think she mentioned something about a Libflix Special. And I know everyone's got a Libflix special nowadays but hey why not us too." Larry gestured slightly erratically to the corridor he was standing in. "This, is affectionally called Route 66. This corridor stretches the length of the Locker and allows our staff and crew to access any portion of the ship without needing to wade into the passenger decks. So lets make our way to the load boss" Larry waved the camera down the corridor taking up a quick pace, doging hover jacks piled high with stacks of everything from shrimp and champagne to lightbulbs and new mattresses. "It's really quite amazing when you think about it. Over the next eight hours over 500 passenger cabins and bathrooms will be cleaned. The entire ship will be cleaned as well as loading another weeks worth of food and provisions. And that's not even thinking about the passengers and their ships who are moving in a wrongfully ugly ballet just three decks above us." Larry was starting to bead with sweat by this point still moving expediently down the corridor. "We are currently hunting down the load boss. Bruce. He is the point man for turnaround day, pretty much every one of our 22 onboard departments will be reporting to him over the next several hours." Finally making a hard left Larry came face to face with Bruce, a mountain of a man standing at six foot eight he towered over Larry's small stature

What do you want? "You remember the memo I sent around about how Cait had lost her mind and..." Bruce held up his finger indicating that Larry needed to wait while one of this three phones started to ring. "What?" he gruffly called into the phone pausing to hear their reply. "Look if he wants to come down here and make it fit fine, but otherwise we are out of deep freezer space, he's gonna need to push the Salmon up to tonight's main" he ended the call and turned back to Larry who immediately picked up where he left off. "and we were voluntold to film turnaround day.". "No, you're the one that upset Caitlyn, you're the one that has to film. My last performance review clearly said exceed expectations. Go bother someone who isn't busy." "Everyone's busy Bruce, it's turnaround day" "Look I would love to discuss this but" as if on cue one of his phones started to ring. He turned and walked away from the pair

"Annnnd that was Bruce, as you can see a little stressed on today but nothing he can't handle, lets head up to the flight deck, we should be loading here already."

"Welcome to the actual money maker, the main deck. " There was a slight squawk as Larry let go of the mic. Wearing an EVA suit, while slick he clearly wasn't a regular user as he had the sunshield down, inside. "We can take up to 50 Freighters, which usually represents the bulk of our business. Accompanied freight checks in about an hour before departure which gives us enough time to balance out weight and plan where everyone's going to get strapped down for the journey. " Larry pulled a clip board up to his sunshield, it could clearly be seen in the reflection that there wasn't anything written on the clipboard. "I see that today we are already ahead of schedule, and that we will be departing momentarily for the Cortez System" Terry cut him off, "pissst, Larry, we aren't going to Cortez next" "What do you mean, we're on Manhattan, the route then takes us.." Terry cut him off again, "We're in Cambridge."

"What day is it?""Monday, Larry, Monday the 26th." Larry groaned, "Okay we'll edit that part out. Second times a charm." Larry brought the blank clipboard up to his face again. "I see that today we are already ahead of schedule, and that we will be departing momentarily for the New Tokyo System." "I don't think Marketing is going to be happy with this." "You aren't being helpful" "What day is it?" Terry called mockingly before Larry launched the clipboard at the camera breaking it in the process, the feed ended in static.

Subject: The Manhattan-Tokyo Run

"Five years in a mothball bag, and she still smells like industrial solvent and old hops." Larry adjusted the camera, which was currently balanced on a crate of 'Do-Dads' and new navigation sensors. "Welcome to the return of the Locker. Management finally realized that when Liberty and Kusari start snapping at each other’s heels, people stop caring about luxury and start caring about not getting their cargo seized by a nervous border patrol."

He gestured vaguely out the forward viewport at a swarm of maintenance drones buzzing around the hull. "We’re stripping out the old 'relaxation' suites and doubling down on the essentials. This isn't a cruise anymore; it's the fastest ferry between Manhattan and New Tokyo. You drive your freighter onto the flight deck, we lock the mag-clamps, and we burn through the 'untamed in-between' while you're sitting in a booth with a mid-rate scotch and a hot meal. No military shakedowns, no pirate detours, just a straight shot for 33,000 credits."

"Sir? The load boss says we have a situation at the loading bay," Terry’s voice drifted in, accompanied by the screech of a power saw cutting through a bulkhead. "Unless the ship is on fire, Terry, it’s a 'feature,' not a situation." "It’s the produce shipment for the new kitchens, sir. Customs seized the whole lot at the Manhattan gate. Apparently, 'Arugula' is being classified as a 'strategic botanical asset' because of the border tensions. Something about it being 'unauthorized greenery' from a rival House."

Larry stared at the camera, his eyes narrowing. "Arugula. They’re holding us up over salad? Terry, tell Bruce we’re skipping the greens. If the passengers want a 'unauthorized greenery', they can look at the mold growing in the waste reclamation system. We’re here to move ships, not toss salads." "The passengers might complain Larry. Cait’s memo was very specific about 'quality dining' for the second-class tier." "Cait can come down here and explain to a pushy passenger why we’re late because of a crate of leafy greens. We’re launching for the New Tokyo run on Tuesday with or without the Arugula. The bar is 60% installed, the engines are 90% green, and the pilot is... well, I’m 100% ready for this log to end..." "What’s the ETA for the first run?" Terry asked, leaning into the frame. "Seventy-two hours. Tell the crew if they aren't done bolting the new seats down by midnight, they’re sleeping on the flight deck. We’ve got a schedule to keep and a war to outrun. Get. Out."

The feed cuts with Larry picking up a wrench and pointing it threateningly at a flickering overhead light.
