Singular skies surround the peaceful station; several trader vessels come and go, resupplying the base and making sure that the needs are being fulfilled on time. Tau-37 has been the battlefield of several engagements during weeks by now, but recently the seas are mostly calm. Zoners have to endure against unfathomable odds in deep Tau space; biodomes ensure autonomy, but bringing additional and special resources to the base could be a risky adventure. The Freeport 10 inhabitants must have to keep trades in check at all times, avoiding getting caught in the crossfire during the skirmishes of their neighbors. For many Outcasts, however, Zoners’ well-being is of no consequence to them; having a neutral ground for commerce and diplomatic affairs is enough condition to keep Freeport 10 intact for the time being. Now it is fulfilling its purpose, once again, as a meeting hub.
The conference room was prepared without any unnecessary arrangements, just what it is required for the occasion and a little present: A long rectangle table, several chairs, a good view with a couple of suns and a box. This last one was opened, in the middle of the table, containing multiple varieties of cigars; different sizes and scents.
The Malta Hyperspace Starfleet delegation is standing by for the arrival of the special guest in the hangar bay. Among the members, two of them start to talk to each other, an irritated man and a steadfast woman:
“I do not think this will get somewhere, señorita López. What were our bosses thinking? I read the comms and it already seemed that the situation was going nowhere…”
The woman put up an upset face, annoyed by the lack of professionalism shown by the rookie: “Stay quiet, señor Cruz. This is for the best interests of our organization. You are in no position to judge the Alpha Command regarding this. Consider it as a test for you, time to show your diplomacy skills.”
“Do not worry about me, I will do just fine.” Cruz scratched his head, wondering if this gathering will escalate in an unpleasant way.
