History

Crafted in the drydocks of Torshavn, the Caliburn is yet another example of aggressive utilitarian elegance. Pushing the efficiency and ingenuity of Gaian shipwrights the Caliburn-class destroyer boasts the advances made in recent years. Akin to other vessels used by the cause, the Caliburn is a sleek and agile raider combining a resilient shell and respectable firepower within a compact frame.

The Lochrath however is the byproduct of a financially unstable political movement. While cost-effective, the vessel is cramped and lacking some shipboard amenities. In addition to it's design, the vessel found its construction cycle during a supply crisis. Due to this, construction was halted and started up again multiple times with varying qualities of materials recovered from Sandur and Atacama during the recent war with Gallia and the Omega-3 Crisis. This produced a patch-work engineering feat that while operable requires special maintenance.

To the dismay of its crew during production, these small setbacks were intended to be the reasoning for why they in specific were to be given the Lochrath. The crew, a ragtag splinter group within the Gaian Movement, were seen as overly moderate and weak willed. Due to the nature of the movement and the need to crew ships they were assigned the "worst" of that cycle's batch. However, a silver lining discovered by the crew was the vessel's ability to adapt most any equipment to its systems due to it's stitch-work design. This small boon allows the vessel to operate further from friendly ports and receive repairs from foreign docks.

The crew uses this small upside fully to their advantage. When outfitting the vessel a lack of coilings for standard destroyer turrets caused a pause to giving a standard armament. To combat this a stashed supply of Xiphos turrets on Torshavn was discovered and bought out to be hastily mounted on the ships hull. Aftermarket Borderworlds equipment was brought in to replace missing parts while as much standardized Bretonian parts pilfered from raids was used for the base hull.

The Lochrath now operates in the far reaches of the Gaian movement, supporting and supplying itself in the depths of the Barrier and Tau sector alike. Its name roughly translates to "Sea Stronghold", a quality taken up when striking heavy targets in the vastness of space.

Crew

The crew is a ragtag bunch considered by the movement to be outside the bounds of what Gaians and the Green Front stand for. In part this is correct. Portions of the crew come from outside of Bretonia, such as Landwirtrechtbewegung refugees and borderworld-born spacefarers. This gathering has differing opinions and mindsets that while similar to gaianism does not fully align. However the willingness and determination to act for the cause allows enough handwaving to allow the crew to continue to operate under the green flag.

The captain, Parlance Gellen, was a Bretonian-born Gaian activist. Over time his views turned from that of planetary and ecological protection to something broader. Space itself was born of nature just as asteroid belts and planets were. All came from the same point in time so everything is the same. Such thinking lead Gellen towards philosophical thoughts such as monism and platonism. Due to his odd curiosities of thought he often invites his crew into discussions during downtime.

Quartermaster Mary Ward held the unique position of being both the Quartermaster and acting Master (traditionally Sailing Master). Due to this dual-role Ward acts as the ship's logistical head while also coordinating the ships movements. Stressing as this may be Ward tends to keep a positive outlook on situations. Bretonian born, Ward was one of many from Leeds to back the Green Front and slowly slip into the Gaian movement over time.

Chief Engineer Niklas Esser is the brawns behind keeping his ship alive. From Rheinlandic origins, Esser took on the project of creating the Lochrath and now maintains it due to it's unique requirements. He doesn't take the captain's mindset to heart and instead lives for his craft.
