Hi, I'm playing the Discovery mod in a LAN with a friend of mine. We were hoping to join forces, beat difficult missions and get heavy money. Imagine our surprise when we saw that mission rewards are divided between goup members without being multiplied first.
So, if I have a job worth 50000$ and complete it alone I'll get the full money, but if we complete it togheter I get 25000$, this does not favor team play. The rewards should be multiplied by the total group members, so anyone can get 50000$ and the mission will be easier!
Moreover, we thought to join in a trade enterprise: me with a freighter and him escorting.
After a while we realized that with a 450 cargo unit cargo ship, transporting passengers, prisoners or diamonds we can earn about 1400 per unit of cargo. That makes 640000 per trip, unluckly the trip takes 5-6 system jumps and about 20 minutes of playing. Doing missions for the bounty hunters or the corsairs will give you more than twice that money in same amount of time. Only after buying the expensive train container ship trading is worth to be done.
The conclusion: Freelancer does not favor team play.
Do you have any suggestion about any profitable team activity?
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
From a credit collection point of view, there are much larger transport vessels available
in several locations, and one or two trade routes out there, where he cash can just roll
in if thats all you want to do.
The mission system is fine, rewards are split if you want to make it easier when flying the
big ones, or if greed is good, expect to have to work a bit harder for it. Two of you can
fly a mission almost twice as fast. Works out the same in the overall scheme of things.

hehe, not to mention the satisfaction you get when destroying the last target, that feeling is worth it alone, the money is a bonus :)
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor
Yes, I thought about pirating, one man with a fighter to take down the vessel and the other with a freighter to take the loot. It will surely make the game exciting. Smuggling drugs is also an option.
I have to explain, I think that the goal of the game is to buy the best craft with the best equipment, having much fun in the process and then go to Nomads systems to burn some aliens. To reach the incredible 200M$ cash required to buy a fully equipped dreadnought, the fastest way is surely trading with a large container tranport ship (80000 units of cargo!!! SLUURP  ). To reach the 30M$ needed to buy the cargo, it seems that being a criminal is the best solution, the problem is that all other organizations will not be happy and will close their ports to the future trading (and this will cause large expenses in bribes). Trading also favor exploring to search for the best route.
Hey I aim to buy the outcast dreadnought, but playing online I saw something called the MARSFLYER. It was the old "War of the Worlds" martian ship! COOL!!!
Does somebody knows its specs and where I can buy it? It must be somewhere over the Alaska system, I explored almost all the rest of Sirius.

Yeah, I could tell you, but you'd hate yourself in the morning. About ten minutes of those bloody gun sounds, and you'll be ready to garrote yourself with the nearest piece of wire...
You do realize that the container transport only has 5000 cargo hold? not 80 thousand. srry to rain on your parade. BTW the marsflyer is very slow and not very manuverable. Any decent pilot in a Ravenclaw, Talon, Viper, Manta, etc. could beat it with no trouble at all. but the container trans is the best transport in the game. costs 40 mil. New Tokyo
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
