I've found that, for whatever reason, patching goes much quicker when the Launcher is minimized, so maybe try that. But this whole issue should absolutley be addressed by the devs.

Agreed, the best way would be releasing a new up to date mod installer.
Currently you need to download about 1,8GB (if i remember right) of patches from clean install.
But there might be an issue with the Launcher, not sure if it can handle that sort of thing or would force everyone to clean install.
Could end up with all sorts of compatibility issues, instead of slow update/install process. And that would not be worth the effort.
