Greetings Disco players,

I noticed through the years that hi-tech devices such as cloaks, jumpdrives, scanners, matrixes, and docking modules are getting different prices from time to time.
A long time ago, the prices were higher than today's prices but now things changed as you know, Space life is irregular Smile
Therefore I would like to do a large survey to detect the reasonable prices through your votes.
Here is a test survey on one popular device, and thank you for your votes!

The question asked doesn't have a simplistic answer (though asking people what average price they would like to pay is always going to lead to 'as cheap as possible' response).

Lets just start with a couple of items that require the most commodities. They have both similar overall material cost prices and amount of 5kers required to deliver them.

Hyperspace Survey Module Mk III
• 185,000 Reinforced Alloy x 250 = 46.25 million
• 25,000 Industrial Hardware x 200 = 5 million
• 20,000 Optronic Arrays x 350 = 7 million
• 10,000 Quantum Arrays x 750 = 7.5 million
• 20,000 Robotic Hardware x 250 = 5 million
Total = 70.75 million
Trips = 52

Jump Drive Series IV
• 110,000 Reinforced Alloy x 250 = 27.5 million
• 5,000 Gravity Field Stabilizers x 5000 = 25 million
• 10,000 Critical Temperature Alloy x 300 = 3 million
• 30,000 Industrial Hardware x 200 = 6 million
• 25,000 Robotic Hardware x 250 = 6.25 million
• 35,000 Argentium Silver x 200 = 7 million
• 15,000 Magnetic Superconductors x 350 = 5.25 million
Total = 80 million
Trips = 50

It would be too simplistic to say that each POB should charge the same price for these items, but it would be foolish. Those 50 trips take time, so someone whose POB is closer to the supplies can afford to charge a lesser price than those that are further from the sources.

Now, if the POB Owner decides to build these himself and you say that each trip takes an average of 10 minutes to complete (which is probably an unrealistic time), then we are looking at about 500 minutes (just over 8 hours) to supply all the commodities to POB. So a reasonable price may be 500 million for an item that has taken someone 8 hours of trading to build. Especially when people are making 80-100+ million an hour (and I have heard this figure is too low) in BZs and making 120 million per hour hauling Ores.

That is why POB Owners sometimes pay others to supply the items, but it then comes down to a fine balance of what a POB Owner should pay the suppliers + making a bit of profit for his time in making them.

The strange ones are the Cloaks. The Nomad Remains don't have a set price and can vary quite a bit.
Cloaking Device Mk I (light)
• 40,000 Reinforced Alloy x 250 = 10 million
• 10,000 Industrial Hardware x 200 = 2 million
• 6000 Plasmonic Metamaterials x 500 = 3 million
• 5 Nomad Fighter Remains
• 2 Nomad Gunboat Remains
• 1 Nomad Battleship Remains
Total = 15 + various million
Trips = 12

The surprising thing about the selling of the items is that one would have thought that the price of the Light Cloak would have a relationship to the price of the others, ie Medium/Transport Cloak would be 2x the price of a Light Cloak and the Advanced Cloak 3x the price.
You find, even though they consume the same materials, a difference in the price between Medium and Transport Cloak.

Amazing and reasonable detail @St.Denis ...
Hopefully, more people will add their input too

According to NSE current supplies prices,

Cloak Mk II advanced
  • 120,000 Reinforced Alloy - 750x120,000 = 90.000.000
  • 30,000 Industrial Hardware - 800x30,000 = 24,000,000
  • 18,000 Plasmonic Metamaterials - 18,000x1,000 = 18,000,000
  • 15 Nomad Fighter Remains - 15x500,000 = 7,500,000
  • 6 Nomad Gunboat Remains - 6x3,000,000 = 18,000,000
  • 3 Nomad Battleship Remains - 3x5,000,000 = 15,000,000
  • Total = 172,000,000
  • Trips = 35 + Logistics expenses

My first quandry is how you could get anyone to haul mats for 220-260 csu's in the first place. Complete waste of time even if you're point-click/watching youtube tbh.

All my supplies are set to 400 csu's but I don't make equipment for sale. But if the price isn't high enough of the end product to pay haulers a decent rate and make a decent profit yourself, then the price isn't high enough. espeically with PVE being so OP right now.

Items made and sold by players to players are worth what players will pay for them. Whether it's a worthwhile investment for time or credits to you is a different question. Whether someone sells for less or more than you is also a different question. If there are cheaper options available, expect people to take them. If not, they'll likely pay what you're asking. Welcome to the market.

In the beginning, prices were high because of a lack of supply. Demand for the unique and novel items were high out of curiosity and utility. But as time went on, demand would decrease as novelty and curiosity fell. Utility was still there, but so does other production facilities and the circulation of the items. This made the prices fall.

This is the case with any market whether it be a new kind of sword or a new phone. Discovery is specifically irregular and makes for a turbulent market because of a variety of different factors, most of which are player driven. War, for example, can drive the price of cloaking devices upward as the demand increases.

If Bretonia breaks out in war right now against Gallia and the Bretonian Armed Forces demand their ships be equipped with cloaking devices, the demand will jolt upward. You can then increase your prices as, no matter what, you will have a buyer. But you can't go too high or else your competitor down the trade lane may sell cloaking devices for slightly less than your sale price. So, it's a balancing act that there is no real answer for unless I had more numbers in front of me. Basically a regurgitate version of what St. Dennis and Squad say.

We can sit down and crunch some numbers some time.

@Zentor I actually don't supply anymore for money, which is why most of my CR deliveries are free. I just like helping people and enjoy seeing the finished product being used Smile

It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.
