Vote held regarding Maltese sovereignty!
Lipari to receive representatives in the Chamber.
Yet another refugee crisis unfolding?
By: Katie Sumner

Secretary of State Horatio Esposita released a statement yesterday from the central government building in Lipari, calling for national unity and patience as the President calls for an emergency vote of the Congregation. The vote reached a pivotal point later in the day as many representatives cast their vote on Chamber Action 482. The action, officially titled 'The Maltese Decision of Autonomy Versus Federalization', will determine Malta's future within the Taus.

The vote was held within the Congregation Chamber aboard Barcelona by all representatives of the colonies, including for the first time Liparian delegates following the island's referendum last week to join the Congregation as a fully fledged member state. With the vote tallied at 147 yea to 6 nay with one abstention, the decision marks a turning point in Malta's autonomy compared to her neighbors. Members of the Cabinet will now seek coordination with Crayter over the Republic's course of action.

Preceding the vote has been an ongoing humanitarian crisis that has so far claimed over two-thousand lives as Crayterian refugee transports have been liberating wounded and hope-starved refugees from Planet Veracruz, the home of the Liberty Insurgency. The Insurgency was attacked several months ago in force as Liberty aims for the removal of the revolutionary force and an end to the civil war that has been ongoing for over a decade now.

Maltese Foreign Affairs Secretary Sabrina Iltzmann had this to say about the ongoing crisis:

"It's an absolute tragedy, and while the fighting was never avoidable, the humanitarian crisis is. Ships fleeing the fighting, many loaded with Bretonian refugees that had previously fled Leeds, are either captured or gunned down by Liberty outright. Officially they class the refugees as terrorists, likely for simply using Veracruz as an escape from the destruction of their homes in Leeds, but we all know that this is simply a facade to mask Liberty's lack of compassion towards those who have clearly suffered enough."

Officially the refugee toll stands at over 1,500 lost, though Crayterian authorities have assured us that over ten times that amount have safely reached Yuma's landing pads, with many more on the way. Many members of the Congregation have applauded Crayter's efforts, though remain curious as to the fate of any Insurgency personnel that hitch along. Some speculate that Crayter may hand the more directed criminals over to Liberty, as a gesture of good faith, though many officials in the Republic have cast these off as dubious at best.

The Maltese New Service will continue to watch these events as they unfold.
We wish all watching a good night and a safe flight.
