Leeds -- A Shadow Of Its Past
LEEDS -The former manufacturing centre for the Crown lays in ruins to this day -- the burning Triumph wrecks serving as a reminder to the people of Bretonia of the difficult battles fought to regain control over the region, control that was subsequently all but lost with the Glassing and increase in piracy.
Nowadays, the system is but a hub for pirates, with the Armed Forces and Police Authority facing the daunting task of securing the trade lanes with only a small number of pilots. The situation is further worsened by the increasing Gaian presence in the northern sector, with raids occurring on a daily basis and turning the reconstruction efforts at LD-14 into a nightmare for both engineers and pilots who have to cope with the ever-looming threat of an attack.
What lead to the Glassing of Leeds? -In the final months of the war with Gallia, the desperate hardliners in the Gallic Royal Navy sought to expedite a victory -- be it through winning a defeat of the Allies in the field, or through a strategic one, aimed at important industrial centres. Ultimately, they chose to strike at the heart of Bretonia's industry, Planet Leeds, due to the approach of Allied forces. In a hastily-prepared move, Triumph-class destroyers sundered the Planet, all whilst the High Command of the Gallic Royal Navy held little, if any, regard for the people stranded on the surface.
What were the immediate consequences? -The follow-up to the initiation of orbital bombardment was the immediate and complete loss of life in all centres of industry and other important urban settlements on Leeds. Only those who managed to escape on shuttles during the tenuous blockade of the planet survived the bombardment, with the glassing quickly becoming the biggest massacre of humans since the dawn of mankind.
The Gallic Royal Navy did not escape such consequences either -- a number of officers led a revolt and attempted to fight back against the loyalist forces, but outgunned and outnumbered, they had no chance of doing such a move. Instead, one of the destroyers that had sided with the defectors chose to contact the Allies and offered them to codes to the locked Jump Gate that led to Leeds. The RNS Bellegarde, as it had identified itself, played a crucial role in the closing stages of the Glassing, but the effort came too late to change the course of the events, as the Glassing had ended by the time the Allies mobilized available vessels.
Grandiose ideas -While almost 3 years have passed since the unfortunate event, government officials remain just as adamant to continue the rebuilding efforts at Stokes and LD-14, in hopes of providing more workspace and much-needed industrial centres for revenue to the Crown. 'An achievable goal' several months prior, the proposals now seem as distant as ever after the recent tensions with Liberty and closure of important commerce routes and with an increasing pirate presence.
Looking to the interstellar neighbours to the East and North, it remains unclear whether the Foreign Office will manage to address the funding issue of the projects in Leeds, as Bretonia braces for ever lower taxation and commerce profits with the prosperous gateway to Liberty now almost closed. Neither Rheinland nor Kusari corporations have shown much interest in opening up significant trade routes to Bretonia in the coming weeks, making the situation a complicated issue for the still-new Ambrister Cabinet.
Costly maintenance -Even with the rebuilding operations at Stokes and LD-14, the Trade and Industry Department data shows that the Leeds system is causing a financial black hole for the Armed Forces and Police Authority, who have to deal with increasing operational costs of both the patrols and the warships stationed with the Ark Royal.
As pirates become bolder by the day, so do casualties increase amongst the ranks of the lawful agencies. It has been revealed that roughly 35% to 40% of all patrols are declared as MIA after several days, and while manpower does not constitute an immediate worry for the military and police, the costs may become too much to deal with in the coming years.

Bretonia was not even able to properly patrol Leeds prior to Gallia. Go ahead and sell it to them or Kusari, you useless tax money eating "strategists". Focus on the real issues, the refugees, the food market. Our corrupt perverted politicians. Just abandon this hellhole already and let someone competent secure the Tau highway!
You guys didn't care about the people of Leeds before the bombing and you don't care about us after either. Leeds was a horrible place to live and all you guys did was let BMM take advantage of the less fortunate. You have so many people forced to live on Halifax, a scrap heap constantly falling apart. Yet it's still better than our lives on Leeds. Maybe the Gaians have the right of it. Stop using our suffering for a pity party and do something for once.
