Starlight Research Consortium Chasing starlight since 829 A.S.
ABOUT
The Starlight Research Consortium (SLRC) was formed in late 829 A.S. by Dr. Sailas Montgomery. He was an accomplished Cambridge graduate with a shady past who in his efforts to start over fresh, incidentally created one of the foremost accomplished scientific groups of a generation. Originally aiming to headquarter in the Kansas system, he met a Technocracy agent named Revenant who warned him away from founding any organization in the backwater system for reasons never explained. Revenant told him of other places with unique anomalies that could be researched. Omega-11 and Tau-23. The latter of which would eventually become the Starlight home system.
Dr. Montgomery flew to Tau-23 and began researching the anomalies there, noting a decaying derelict wreck named Ikarus Storage Facility 03. Noting the unusual name of the station and it's proximity to the anomalies in the system, he worked on gaining access to the derelict station. With the aid of a local research group known as the Starfliers, Starlight now had a unique home in a far flung sector.
As the years passed, Starlight grew into a formidable research group in the Taus who ventured far beyond their home into the Omicrons, the Omegas, and Sigmas. They aided their kin against Liberty during the Erie crisis (behind the scenes of course) with various weapons and other aid. They explored the mysteries of Alberta along side Auxo and barely survived with their lives. All was full of wonder, awe, and intrigue...until their Director went missing.
In his absence, Dr. Wright took over the helm and lead Starlight, however the flash of light that was SLRC was beginning to wane and within a few years, they had been reduced to a shell of their former selves. The Dreamscape, their Flagship was missing, the Director's daughter Rose was missing. All seemed lost when Rose reappeared from the grave and told them where they could find a relic of the golden age of the Consortium. In a rush, the group made a trip to Earhart to recover the lost Carrier. However, getting it out of Earhart was nigh impossible. During their attempt to rescue the ship, they were attacked by unknown assailants and were forced to jump the ship into the periphery of the system in a desperate attempt to escape. Their people were dying and the ship was splintering apart under the assault.
Sailas, having been onboard incognito during the rescue attempt, left aboard the Infinitum, a craft of his own design, and flew into the enemy forces. Overloading his hyperspace matrix and collapsing the tunnel behind the Dreamscape, he saved his former comrades and their prize from destruction or capture but lost his life in the process.
The Dreamscape dropped out of Hyperspace in Tau-37. Battered, bruised, and nearly dead in the water, the ship labored on. It made the transition into Tau-23 and to Ikarus before finally giving up and dying just outside the station. She had shepherded her family home safely and now it was time for her to rest. However, the return to Ikarus was not a jolly homecoming. There were no cheers from the station as the Flagship appeared...the station was empty. Food left uneaten and reports half finished in the midst of being written...the Consortium onboard vanished. Their whereabouts are unknown and the events leading up to their disappearance is a mystery.
SLRC are now rebuilding and attempting to enter a renaissance to rival their golden era. Will they succeed? Or fail as other organizations like them have for centuries? Join today, and find out.
There are very few Heavy-class ships within Starlight due to the extreme cost in maintaining these massive ships. The only two ships of this size within SLRC is the Dreamscape which is currently under a full rebuild and the Gryphon which is utilized by Dr. Wright for deep space research.
X (Exploration Vessel) - Explorer Class Ships
Those that explore the great beyond and everything inbetween. Often times flying ships capable of scanning anomalies. Also used for mining ships venturing into Earhart or the Deep Omegas.
T (Transport Vessel) - Trader/Passenger Ship
Often times used for base restock or passenger travel between various systems.
BASES
Ikarus Station
Ikarus was formerly a Junker base stationed in Tau-23 that had fallen into some disrepair after a lack of use and was recovered with the aid of the Starfliers faction. Now SLRC research hub for Tau-23, it functions as a place for in-depth research looking into the truth of the anomalies as well as other interesting scientific and development projects. Ikarus station is considered the headquarters for the SLRC and is presently under retrofit for expansion for research into other fields.
ALIGNMENT
Allies:All Zoner Factions and Independents - While we are scientists, we are also Zoners. That being the case, we treat other Zoners as alies.
Friendly:Starfliers - The Starfliers have been a great help in getting us off the ground. They are considered friendly and are working towards allied status.
Curious:Auxo - The Auxo are interesting. They are in the pursuit of knowledge just as we are...however we have heard strange things about them and while we value their knowledge, we will proceed with caution.
Neutral:All Not Listed
Suspicious:Nomads - While most will treat the Nomads as hostile, we are more curious with a mix of hostile which is why they reside on the "Suspicious" level. Time will tell if this will change.
Unfriendly:Corsairs & Liberty - Both the Corsairs and Liberty have been dishonest and untrustworthy over the past few years. They will be not be attacked on sight, but we will not willingly be trampled on either.
Hostile:N/A
DEPARTMENTS
While the departments of SLRC used to be an important lynchpin for the small organization, this component of the Consortium has been depreciated. With the closure and disbandment of the Pathfinders from under the umbrella of Starlight, all departments have been merged together to form a cohesive unit rather than being separated internally. This allows for easier operations and visibility for various projects.
"It's time for the yearly update to the faction document."
"Yes dear."
Removed departments.
Updated ship tags to be more streamlined. No more books for ship names.
Removed Security and Pathfinders tags. - "We're explorers, not mercenaries Jim!"
Removed Heavy Vessels. Keeping Dreamscape and Gryphon. All others are thrown in the bin. What kind of poor science faction has a lot of capital vessels?
Except Hope's SRP totally normal Bustard(?)
Changed Research Vessels to Exploration Vessels. Gotta use that shiny new Corvo model!
Updated my old ass BBCode. Looked like doo-doo. This much cleaner.
Overhauled about section...so much has happened...and Sailas is dead.
