the "demanding more cargo than you can carry" unwritten rule has been around for ages. but I do agree that "reasonable" isn't properly defined within the rules and must be addressed.
I assume Couden was on a transport with pirate ID and pirated more cargo than he could carry just to be annoying? Well deserved
Not sure why you talk about that line with Xenos - it's different if you can shoot without a demand, then demand all cargo away as you can just kill them anyways. This reasonable rule is for using piracy ID lines obviously
Long ago, there was a cruel and frightening pirate. His name was... Rob. However, because of his renown cognitive accomplishments, most called him Rob the Reasonable. One of those is a special habit that Rob the Reasonable had. He flew a bomber, and whenever he intercepted a transport, he would demand the entire cargo. Having no other option, transport captains that valued their lives always complied. However, because he could only fit one tiny part of it in his ship, Rob the Reasonable would leave the rest floating around, and some say that's how asteroid fields in House border systems formed. This is why everyone still remembers Rob the Reasonable.
Rob the Reasonable had a brother, who was also a pirate, and also flew a bomber. His name was Bob. However, Bob quickly understood that, instead of cargo, he could demand credits. That is why Bob always had the money for as much booze as he liked, while Rob the Reasonable almost always had to stay sober, simply because he could not afford to drink. It is for this reason that Bob was dubbed the Drunk. One day, this Bob's unreasonable habit cost him everything. He got drunk, he hopped in his bomber, but he was ambushed by a sneaky planet that suddenly dived right into him, and Bob the Drunk was no more. That is how Rob was reasonable.
The rules are a double edged sword. If every possible scenario is covered by the rules, the rules would be many pages long. The opposite side of this sword is having fewer, generalized rules used as guidelines for gamesmanship and fair play. This community has chosen the latter.
Each choice has it's pros and cons. It is up to us, the players, to police our own activities to ensure we are providing ourselves, and others, a fun experience. If you are a player that is rooting through the rules to find the smallest loopholes or any way to cheese the system, you are going to have a bad time here. Plain and simple
It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.
Oh please, rules are almost always enforced in such a way that the offender feels spit in the face by the administration and moderator teams alike. There's little actual regard for rules, and they're most of the time enforced without any looks thrown at available roleplay. There's still plenty of people around who bend the rules around to their liking and never ever get punished for it, so the argument that "fair play" is somehow even remotely considered is just a statement thrown around without a basis. There's also plenty of people willing to continuously seek loopholes just to exist in the game to grief others. Get out with the "for fun" and "sportsmanship" arguments.
Also, you all of people, Racerdude, shouldn't be even talking about rules. Your charade around Sigmas with PoBs just proves that we still have a staff team incapable of addressing individuals that do things only to piss off others. But of course, if you mention this out openly, the posts get censored awfully quick. It's a wonderful time to be alive.
I mean Couden has a fucking bullmastiff with Pirate ID and demands more Gin than he can carry - that's just stupidity. This rule was always here for transport, heck I remember talking about it with him multiple times
