Finally I upgraded from 7 to Win 10, returning back to "my Query" I downloaded the required .net programme and Freelancer (never mind Discovery, I stumbled on the first step) but what the instruction are and what actually happen are are worlds apart. How is it possible that man in his wisdom is able to achieve so much but when it comes to computerization instruction is like going to a parallel universe
I'm so sick that every move I make takes forever to accomplish.

Incidentally why do I need Administrator Privileges on the original game

I'm not sure what kind of problem you are experiencing, or even what you are trying to do. But there's a lot of (supposedly) PC smart people here.

If I was to try and translate this to some comprehensible speech - it sounds like OP just updated from Win 7 to 10 and can't launch neither the clean game neither Discovery on Win 10 and this tutorial didn't help them.

I couldn't have said it better. That is precisely what happened. And for some unknown reason when I try to play the original I now get a
message stating I need Administrative Privileges--what ever that means?

I am sure somewhere in the install tutorial it states you have to run part if the install as an administrator on your PC or laptop.

You must turn on directplay.Go to turn Window features on or off.look for Legacy Componants.Check the box and then check the box called Direct play.Then you can play the game.

There are LOADS of people on this forum who can help.

Can I suggest you uninstall/delete everything to do with this game and then run the instruction video's one after another, completing each step then unpausing to watch the next until all is installed.

I followed the available instructions; Honestly, if it worked for me then the instructions are flawless.
