With the recent announcement from Darmstadt, many traders and local authorities had to decide how much credence to lend to this new vocal opposition to Synth Foods in Rheinland. While some of the more risk averse have hired escorts and chosen alternative routes, most have relegated this announcement to the gargantuan spam folders of their neural net. Business as usual continues for the most part - after all, there's always money to be made, and new opportunities do not wait for one who is afraid to fly out there.

While police and military spokespersons have assured the public that the necessary security arrangements have been made, a reasoned response is not quite the fuel for the fire sought after by Darmstadt revolutionaries. Seeing that the announcement hasn't even spiked insurance rates for passing through the system, a newer, more daring plan has been devised to escalate matters to the next level. While Supply Station Neckar and plantations on Stuttgart itself are the primary target of LWB ire, there are other places in the system that engender distaste from lower and middle-class farmers.

The resorts on Baden Baden have always enjoyed the visits of most of the Rheinland elite, and any system-wide announcements about the dangers of such trips are scoffed at in the comfort of a private berth. Instead of making a response to any demands or threats, OS&C has redoubled its advertisement efforts, even going so far as to offer company-wide discounts on many of its services. With countless takers willing to celebrate their superiority regardless of the price, business has never been better for resort representatives on Baden Baden. With no concrete threats materializing in the weeks since the announcements, the briefly increased security patrols are already being phased out for those in use during regular House operations. And that is just the type of opportunity the fighters on Darmstadt have been waiting for in order to make their mark on the system...

Combat Area & Disposition

• Rheinland forces start near Planet Stuttgart.
  
• Alliance forces start at Darmstadt and proceed to Baden Baden.
  
• The OS&C Liner and two escorts start on the far side of Baden Baden. The other two escorts start on Baden Baden.

Objectives

• Rheinland forces:
  
• Engage all Alliance forces.
  
• Secure the VIPs (// vacationers).
  
• Protect the liner.
  
• Last resort: destroy the frigate while the VIPs are on it.
  
  OS&C security:
  
• Protect the liner from being boarded.
  
• Secure the VIPs.
  
• Engage all Alliance forces.
  
  Alliance forces:
  
• Land marines onto the liner.
  The frigate jettisons marines, in batches of at most 20 at a time, while the liner keeps spamming "tractor beam".
  If there are more marines on the liner than half the crew, the liner is under Alliance control, otherwise OS&C retains control.
  
• If successful, transfer as many VIPs from the liner onto the frigate as possible, then escort the frigate back to Darmstadt.
  VIPs are transferred via trading, but only in batches of 10 at a time. If trading cannot continue, all remaining marines are jettisoned.
  
• If unsuccessful, force the liner towards Darmstadt under escort, and command it to launch escape pods when within 10K.
  The liner may choose to refuse to obey orders. Only 100 VIPs max can be launched (jettisoned) via escape pods.
  
• Engage all lawful forces as necessary.
  
• Last resort: destroy the liner.
  
• Last resort: destroy the VIP escape pods.

Rules

• Event starts:
  OS&C security forces sight Alliance forces.
  
• Docking means you're out of the event for the remaining duration.
  
• The liner can only maintain impulse speed.
  
• The liner starts with 80 crew and 300 VIPs (// vacationers).
  
• The liner and frigate and cannot shoot when jettisoning or trading.
  
• The frigate starts with 60 marines.
  
• Event ends:
  All Alliance forces have been destroyed / retreated.
  OR
  All lawful forces have been destroyed / retreated.
  OR
  The liner and all VIPs have been destroyed.
  OR
  The frigate lands on Darmstadt.
  
• Note that after the event ends, normal server rules apply.

Just fyi for people, a lot of these rules and objectives center around the Liner and the Frigate. If you just want to bring a fighter and pew the enemy, you've come to the right place. However, if people do enjoy the idea behind this event, let me know and I'll be trying similar things in the future, despite the potential complexity.

Interesting take with the Marines, but this would work much better if it were coded to work automagically. Now I'm quite sure Jayce Raisu or somebody had prototyped something akin to a boarding pod gameplay mechanic a couple of years ago. It actually spawned Marines on the targeted ship's cargo hold (it worked on POBs though). Maybe someone from @Coders wants to take a look / inspiration from it ?

Very interesting. I was going to get in touch with people to see if this can happen more easily next time. If this can be implemented without too much trouble, I'll definitely be trying something involving boarding in the future.
