Okay, so my in game name is [RD]Kygar. I pretty much play to do missions, rack up cash, buy new ships, explore and have fun roleplaying. However, I have an issue that seems to be overlooked on this server as a whole and I don't know how many will agree with me but here goes...
So I play a Corsair. I was in a neutral border system. Omicron Delta to be exact and I was doing missions, minding my own business when I get ganged up on by two Bounty Hunters without them saying anything to me other than "Engaging". I didn't do anything to them. I was just doing a mission. This happens to me all the time. I do missions innocently enough and get ganged up on by several Bounty Hunters all the time. Now, I realize there is a RP element and BHs hate Corsairs and blah blah blah but in my opinion, I find that I can't even do missions innocently without being horded by Bounty Hunters. I don't wander around attacking random player BHs for no reason. Honestly, it makes the game really boring, aggravating and very much less appealing to play when I can't do missions. Like I said, RPing is all good but is it really necessary to gang up on a lone Corsair who's doing a mission and not bothering anyone? I don't even get the common courtesy of a dialogue before I'm ganged up on by multiple BHs. I assume everyone's going to tell me that it's fair RP on the BHs part but I find it makes the game really aggravating. I know there are a couple of people who can vouch for me. Oh well. Do tell your thoughts. Thanks.

Honestly, I'm not even trying to get anyone in trouble. I'm just trying to point out a problem that goes unnoticed I think. That problem is that too often under the guise of RPing, players like to kill other players who are simply minding their own business and trying to have fun in their own way without disturbing anyone else. I did mildly swear at the people who ganked me and I apologize for that but it does become infuriatingly frustrating when I'm trying to make some money and I get attacked by players on a constant basis. Whenever I RP and there's a player of a hostile faction, I RP in a peaceful way at first until it becomes obvious that diplomacy won't work. I've escorted plenty of hostile players out of systems in Corsair control and had fun RPing with them but I've never attacked players for minding their own business in a place they're allowed to be in. I don't find it acceptable to attack players of hostile factions under the guise of RPing when they're not A. in a wrong system for that faction or B. attacking you first. I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of thing.

Aside from Tazuras' point, I'd also like to bring up that this server is one that is centred predominately around player->player interaction. If you're looking to do nothing more than missions, then perhaps openSP is for you? But that's not anywhere near as fun so I can understand your want to play on the server with us.
Unfortunately, though, for someone who likes to do their own thing you probably picked one of the worst factions to do it in. Gamma has the unfortunate reputation of having a large population of miscreants. That's not to say all Corsairs are bad, there are just quite a lot who are, and then on top of that you get the BHG and the Outcasts who enjoy raiding Gamma daily and stirring up trouble. It's not exactly an ideal system to be operating in.
I know you said you were in Delta, the the whole region around Gamma is pretty much the same. My suggestion would be a faction change or moving to another base in the Omegas that has a smaller population.
I think it's annoying too. If I meet someone who's clearly not up for a fight, I'll just let them go. It's bad form to force someone in to a fight that they don't want, and it isn't fun for them. Probably isn't fun for you either really. Sure it's an RP server, but it's also a game we all play for fun, and that should be the priority.

Thanks for your thoughts, Nighthawk. I agree with your point that this server is centered around Player-Player interaction but I think that interaction can be mutually respectful and thus fun even between hostile factions RPing. I don't really expect a solution to this and I probably will quit playing this game completely because of this one reason which is sad but I see no other alternative. I play on this server for two reasons, A. there's a lot of players to RP with in a fun, respectful way and B. I've put a lot of time into my character(s), as I'm sure many of you have too. Thanks for reading.

Thank you, Ben. That's exactly how I feel and I couldn't have put it more eloquently.

There are a lot of PvP whores out there, it's true. The rules are out there to make them have to try to be more as much as possible. However I doubt it will ever go away on any open server. The only place you could prevent this would be an invite only server which this will never be. Generally I just try to play with people I know are not like this and in areas that dont see a lot of PVP whores, so I stay out of liberty (no offense to liberty players, but there are a lot of lolwutters there and you know it, for those of you that persevere I commend you) and in the omicrons I only play as order, and usually there are so many of us on that the PVP whores are hesitant to attack. And Nomads are fun to do strange RP with in addition to pew pewing them when the situation calls for it. Although it seems these days the BHG ends up fighting them more often...

I see just as many jerks as BHs, Corsairs, Liberty faction members, etc. Whenever there are Corsairs acting like that I try to remind them that the other players are playing to have fun too but honestly, there's not much you can do to persuade someone bent on being a jerk.

While I was not part of your fight - if they were properly tagged BHG| or BHG|Core pilots, they darned well better have said more than just 'engaging'. If not, let either myself or Tic know who they were.
As for doing missions - Delta isn't really a great spot to do those when someone else is out there - whether you're a Corsair or a Hunter.
And for what it's worth, with the strengthening of the official Bounty Hunter faction, we're much more likely to have people out in Delta, and we are, after all, at war with the Order for control of Nomad tech - so of course we're more likely to have several people available to get on to whack-a-Nomad.

Thanks a lot for your concern and thoughts. Yes, they were both part of BHG Core. I can't remember their names off the top of my head but I will look. (Edit: I looked and neither are online now. I will keep an eye out and update this once I see them online.) Like I said, I've had this happen over 10 times in the past couple times I've played. Also, the exact words were: "Engaging Corsair Kygar" and then they ganged up on me while I was sputtering trying to finish my mission. I had a neutral faction member to me say that he felt bad for me and a Corsair friend ask if he could do anything but I told him to leave them be. For what it's worth, I do try to do missions very close to the Corsair base as not to interfere with BH players doing their thing around the Freeport in Delta. If I'm looking for PvP, I'll go get it by raiding Britonia, Rheinland, etc. Thanks again, Agmen.
