I know this topic MIGHT be useless in the Freelancer RP, but I was just wondering...

I came upon the thought that there were different types of fuels that the colonies used; MOX and H-fuel for a couple of mentions...

Therefore I was wondering if there would be a need to add in the slot in the equipments of all ships an engine that would be based on the fuels that use them: like a nuclear-reactor for the MOX; or hydrocarbonization combustion (HCC) engines that use H-fuel as its base...

It doesn't have to be implemented immediately, in fact, you could consider it to be added in the next mod (4.86).

The two engines would have different uses in different areas, like combat, maneuverability and reputation.
ex:

The MOX would enable the user to have an over-extended thruster duration and shorter weapons-drain, but weapons have a 25% decrease in damage, and normal impulse and cruise speed is reduced by 10%. As for reputation, the ALG would like you more, while the Gaians would hate you a bit...

and:

The H-fuel would do the opposite effects for what the MOX fuel does...

I kinda am new to such, but I thought it might be a notable idea in the future... If you have any ideas for such, or wish to post any negative comments for it, feel free to post...

well darth, the reason my poll is "special" as you place it is that these two types of fuels are the most common right now in the whole sirius galaxy right now... If you knew any, I would LOVE to know any others...

In the meantime, you may poll in the 3rd if needed by.

You forgot Deuterium. I use this kind of fuel on my chars, if availible for my chars. Its more effective than H-fuel.

MOX is clean, Gaian's wouldn't hate it. It's made by recycling Toxic Waste and the infocard describes it as having no ill effects on the enviroment.

I voted H-Fuel and YUP, I would like to see engine equipment or something of the like, It could perhaps increase Impulse speed at the cost of being non-fuel efficient, or you could at the very least have nice engine trails (Even though Rheinland's and the Order's look the best.)

Not a fuel by itself, simply an additive...

Oh, and H-fuel all the way:P

Well...H-fuel all the way.
MOX is only used in the nuclear reactors that power very large ships and stations everything else uses H-fuel. Deuterium isn't a fuel, it's one of the three ingrediants used for the H-fuel process. Gallia uses oil I hear so that introduces the third type fuel.

MOX
>>>PERISHABLE<<<

A mixture of uranium oxide (UO2) and a small (<3%) portion of weapons-grade plutonium, MOX is the primary fuel for the nuclear reactors used aboard large spacecraft and the monstrous blast furnaces of manufacturing platforms. MOX is typically formed into ceramic pellets that are then loaded into zirconium fuel elements and packaged for transport. It is an efficient source of energy that utilizes a large percentage of recycled materials and exhibits only trace radiation, thus posing little threat to the environment.

Deuterium

Deuterium is a heavy isotope of the Hydrogen that is used for production of high-quality fuel. This fuel is mostly required for deep space exploration missions and military covert operations in Border Worlds. Natural supplies of this isotope are rare in Sirius, which makes Deuterium very expensive. Zoners are known as primary suppliers of Deuterium in Sirius for the last 30 years.

hmmmm I wonder what fuel it could be referring to?

H-fuel

H-fuel is the basic fuel used for engine propulsion everywhere in the colonies. A mix of elemental hydrogen, deuterium (H2), and helium-3 (HE3), H-fuel can also be mixed with oxygen in fuel cells to provide water (via "cracking") and electricity for small ships, space stations, and other facilities. H-fuel production is almost totally monopolized by the Kusari who obtain their supplies from the Gas Miners Guild before shipping it to storage depots and distribution facilities throughout the colonies.

Oil = Hydrocarbons.

These all might be great at producing energy, but does anyone actually have a coherrant hypothesis about how all this energy is actually turned into thrust?
They could be using standard ancient impulse technology; ie. throw tonnes and tonnes of a substance out of the back of the ship to propel yourself forward (Newton's 3rd law) but then, why use useful fuels for this rather than something less useful?

Perhaps they use the "fuel" to provide energy for a crazy machine that synthesizes matter from energy (using Einstein's theory or relativity?) and then throw THAT out of the back of the ship.

Maybe NOW, perhaps... But with the increase in the amounts of Toxic Waste and the decrease in H-fuel reserves in the colonies, the need for MOX for the eventuality of an H-fuel depletion, suffice to say that we might be dealing with the eventuality that even fighters could use this alternative source of fuel. Plus, it might add to the RP value too...

Oh... and thanks for saying MOX isn't dirty and environmentally hazardous... That could give it an edge over H-fuel in the long-run...

However, H-fuel does have its advantages...

Needless to say, maybe in the future, the colonies might have to choose between these types of fuels for their ships' efficiency...

Oh... And did anybody say oil? Huh... How did I miss that one? I gotta read the news a little more carefully *laughs*...
