I'm sure Im not hte only person with a mining characther that wonders this.
Why does the administration seem to hate mining / miners, what with their recent nerfing of one of the few mining locations on par with trading to well below any decent trade route.
Plus, in the mining thread in balance forum, it was said by devs that the goal was to make mining WORSE than trading, period.
Why ? Mining requires MUCH more effort. You have to continualy be in motion shooting to make it effective, whereas with trading you just F2/F3 and occasionly hold down C, or use /givecash.
With mining, you usualy dont even have the option to run as if youre mining seriously, you aint paying enuf attention to realize you NEED to run til too late.
And eys you could make 120mil an hour mining, but that cant be kept up for long, I know becasue I put in a number of hours doing it over the weekend before the nerf, and my rates droped steadily as my eyes got more tired from that bright system.
Effort doesn't relate to amount earned, otherwise the players doing missions would be earning the most money (anti cap missions can be a pain without the right ships).
Player interaction is what counts. Traders go all across sirius and have more opportunities to interact than miners sitting in one spot. Yes, perhaps you are more vulnerable when you're stationary in one spot, but a trader also becomes a target everytime he enters a trade lane / cruises towards a jump hole (ie, a lot of the time).
60m an hour is obscene, even if it "can't be kept up for long". The mining in Omega 49 was nerfed simply because it was an anomaly in the system, just like the Diamond/Niobium trade route.
You have to put a lot effort into making the trade routes sensible, why not into mining? In the game GMG had a 80 years war about mining, and kusari and brets started a war for bmm/img disputes. Make factions fight about minig rights on a miserable littel rock. Would add variety and some sense into rp too.
Hey Mudd, can you link me to the thread where we explain that a bunch of people are modding in a bunch of mining changes to fix things (most of all Cannon)?
' Wrote:I bet that I could still make over 20m an hour per person doing it with three people.
I can still make ~25 million per hour mining solo in the Omega-49 field. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. So the income from a field was reduced. So what? All it means is that you're not pulling in ridiculous amounts of cash with, let's face it, little work at all. Mining used to be useless. With the coming of 4.85 it was actually made profitable, and now that those profits have been reduced to a more reasonable amount in one place, people start whining and moaning about it.
I can't help but be reminded of a child whose toy was taken from him and so he throws a temper tantrum by this situation.
