Capabilities & Profile: Alliance Militia
"A soldier's greatest weapons are discipline and a cause to die for." - Sigmund Erich von Stürer
Overview
The Alliance Militia forms the fighting backbone of the Xeno Alliance, a diverse coalition of squadrons and units dedicated to securing independence. While the marines constitutes the ground-based forces, engaging in guerrilla warfare and unconventional tactics, the spaceborne forces rely on a fleet of fighters, bombers, gunships, and an extremely limited number of capital-class vessels. Together, these two branches operate in close coordination, utilizing their respective strengths to strike against the technologically superior forces of House Liberty. Despite their relative lack of material resources, both branches of the Alliance are renowned for their ingenuity, adaptability, and strategic cunning, allowing them to remain a persistent and formidable adversary, especially against irregular forces.

Formation and Influences
The Alliance Militia and its spaceborne forces were both shaped by the influence of Sigmund Erich von Stürer, a veteran of House Rheinland and an expert in asymmetric warfare. Von Stürer’s experience in fighting numerically superior and better-equipped enemies led him to pioneer a doctrine of flexibility, psychological warfare, and strategic innovation. His teachings have influenced not just the ground forces but also the tactics of spaceborne units, which emphasize speed, deception, and the efficient use of limited resources.

Where House Liberty’s military relies on brute force and overwhelming firepower, the Alliance instead focuses on precision strikes, sabotage, and deep-space ambush tactics. Their starfighter squadrons work in tandem with ground forces, disrupting supply lines, targeting key infrastructure, and supporting planetary operations through surgical strikes. The result is a highly adaptive fighting force that can engage in both terrestrial and space combat while remaining elusive and unpredictable.

Training and Doctrine
Both branches of the Alliance undergo rigorous and unconventional training designed to maximize their ability to fight a superior enemy through creative and adaptive strategies which are enumerated below:

1. Psychological Conditioning:
Soldiers and pilots alike are trained to endure high-stress situations and embrace the unpredictability of asymmetric warfare. Morale and resilience are considered as crucial as physical capability.

2. Asymmetric Warfare Tactics:
Ground forces specialize in hit-and-run attacks, ambushes, and sabotage, while space forces employ fast-strike tactics, harassing enemy formations and avoiding direct engagements with superior fleets.

3. Survival and Resourcefulness:
Given their material shortages, both infantry and space pilots are trained to scavenge and repurpose technology. Ground troops create makeshift weapons and traps, while starfighter crews frequently use modified civilian and industrial vessels in combat roles.

4. Fieldcraft and Terrain Utilization:
Infantry forces master terrain-based warfare, using urban environments, mountains, and forests to their advantage. In space, the same philosophy applies, with pilots using asteroid fields, nebulae, and debris clusters for ambushes and cover.

5. Small Unit Tactics:
The Alliance Militia operates in decentralized squads capable of acting autonomously. Their spaceborne allies follow a similar doctrine, operating in independent wings that can launch rapid strikes without awaiting central command approval.

Operational Philosophy
The Alliance’s operational philosophy is defined by a stark contrast to House Liberty’s military. Where Liberty enforces strict hierarchical command and relies on overwhelming technological superiority, the Xeno Alliance emphasizes decentralized decision-making, strategic deception, and the empowerment of individual pilots and marines.

This approach has made the Militia infamous for their ability to outthink and outmaneuver their enemies, turning perceived weaknesses into strengths. They have become experts in psychological operations, often using misinformation, deception, and propaganda to undermine the morale and cohesion of their enemies.

Cunning and Ingenuity
The Militia’s reputation for cunning and ingenuity is well-deserved. They have been known to repurpose civilian technology for military use, such as converting mining equipment into makeshift weapons or using agricultural drones for reconnaissance. Their engineers and technicians are experts in jury-rigging solutions to complex problems, often under intense pressure and with limited resources.

In the field, Militia units are famous for their creative tactics. They might employ decoys to draw enemy fire, lay elaborate traps using the terrain, or use unconventional communication methods to coordinate attacks. Their ability to think outside the box has allowed them to punch above their weight class, consistently achieving victories against more powerful foes.

To Be a Beacon
The legacy of the Alliance Militia is one of resilience and defiance. They have become a symbol of resistance against oppression, not just for their own people but for others who seek to break free from the yoke of tyrannical powers. Their unique approach to warfare, shaped by Von Stürer, has not only kept the Xeno Alliance in the fight but has also inspired similar, albeit small-scale, movements across House Liberty.

In every engagement, the Alliance Militia proves that warfare is not just about who has the biggest guns, but who has the sharpest minds and the strongest will. Their story is one of the underdog, fighting not just to survive, but to win against all odds.

And every day the academy located on Ramsey produces more brave souls.

Alliance Militia Forces Composition

Alliance Militia Unified Ground Command (AMUC)
Commanding Officer: Inspector General Sigmund Erich von Stürer
Seeking simplicity and flexibility, the Alliance Militia chose to gather the various branches of its ground forces under one unified command structure with standardized ranks and hierarchies. This allows the fledgling military to easily adapt to changing circumstances and rapidly deploy its forces across varied fronts.

The main branch of the Alliance Militia's ground forces, the aptly dubbed Ground Forces is a mere fraction the size of proper house militaries, yet forms the backbone of the Alliance Militia. What it lacks in numbers it, however, makes up for in ingenuity. Relying on small unit tactics over numerical advantages and promoting initiative among the rank and file, the Ground Forces are ready to face any battlefield, no matter the odds stacked against them.

The Militia Marines are a far more flexible fighting force than the Ground Forces. As such, individual companies are typically deployed independently of their parent battalion, which only serves an administrative role. Trained primarily to execute and defend against boarding actions, marine companies make up the garrisons of Free Republic stations and infantry complements of the Free Navy's few large ships.

Structure:

– 1st Brigade (2,500 men total)
• 1st Battalion — A–D Companies

Special Tactics & Operations Command (STOC)
Commanding Officer: Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Thorn
An unorthodox branch of the ground forces even by Militia standards, the Special Tactics & Operations Command was formed by deserters from the Liberty Navy's own special forces. Small in number but expertly trained and highly experienced, STOCs are the Alliance's deadliest instrument - matched in lethality only by the Alliance Honor Guard. A single combat team smartly deployed can serve as a force multiplier equal to an entire ground forces battalion.

Structure:

• A Company ("Sunray")
– Combat Team 1 (2 fireteams, 12 men total)
– Combat Team 2 (2 fireteams, 12 men total)
– Support Team 3 (8 men total)

• B Company ("Haymaker")
– Combat Team 1 (2 fireteams, 10 men total)
– Combat Team 2 (2 fireteams, 8 men total)
– Support Team 3 (8 men total)

• C Company ("Checkmate")
– Currently in training
