STORMFRONT AMIDST HEAVY RAIN

The OCV Ma'at-Sekhmet. An "old relic", as described by its crew, and its Captain.
Captained by Pieter "Pete" Van Der Vyers for more than 7 years now, its crew rotating only in a seldom fashion, even less with its current mission.

Before then, the OCV Ma'at-Sekhmet was designed to be a sort of hybrid between the Resheph and the Geb. A capital-ship whose forté is long-range missiles and cruise missiles. It was, and still is, dedicated mostly for counter-intelligence, and patrolling, however, with the uptick of Nomad activity in the Taus and in Gallia, the Ma'at-Sekhmet was re-deployed, far away from its berths, from where it was built.

For about a year, it has been deployed in the fringes of the Gallic Union. Barely making contact with the Gallics who tolerated its presence only because it was not within their borders. It supported the Order's operations in the Taus, observing in the shadows, and making reports, ready to be ferried away covertly via Freelancer pilot or other, all the way back to Akabat.

Today, it was a different day. After some discussion with the Order's High Command. It was decided by the Captain and every member of the CIC to join forces against a potential invasion by the Kusarians, so far away from their homes, infested humans, and the Core, always present, verily, the vultures of SIrius. But the Order held against all odds during the Nomad War. And Fort Carthage will hold.

The Ma'at-Sekhmet was quickly redeployed where it was built; Fort Carthage. During the heightened period of tension, it patrolled, making sure everyone is "correct". Everyone who isn't, is promptly "neutralized". Akabat; Taba Starbase; Carthage. All were targets for the enemies of the Order.

DAY 2

The Ma'at Sekhmet, docked on Taba Starbase for its crew rotation. It has been so long since the same crew operated on the ship. Its other crew took place and reaccomodated themselves with this old relic. After the assignment to the defense of Fort Carthage by ADM. Forsberg, CPT. Van Der Vyers and the CIC agreed to remain behind, to defend Fort Carthage at all cost.

And so they did. Everyone was called at the docking array, where the fighters would've been, it was decided to be for now the place for speeches and information distribution; the bridge being on lockdown for all except the CIC personnel. The captain advanced toward the ranks of the crew. A solid 80 men and women, ready to sacrifice themselves for Humanity in front of him. He began his speech after everyone got into their ranks in front of him and the command personnel.

"Gentlemen, I am your captain," indicated Van Der Vyers, "today, is the second day of the vile assault from hostiles. We need you to be on top today. We, me, the XO and the commandment of this ship, decided that we will stay at Fort Carthage to defend it. And so we will.", the captain let everyone talk between themselves for a while before continuing with his speech. "Our mission, is to protect Fort Carthage. The enemies we will face are insidious, persistent, and hard in general. We cannot let Fort Carthage fall. The defense of this bastion was augmented by a few capital ships as well. And a lot of ships as you can see of the Order's fleet, and our close allies," he paused for an instant, "we mustn't let down Humanity - and Sirius in general. While everyone keeps reducing us to a group of terrorists, of lunatics, of whatever fits their agenda, we will not stop until the threats to mankind are neutralized! That's why we need you."

The battlecruiser was put into position close to Fort Carthage, the one thing it shall protect with herself.

"Enemies, right in front of us, they seem Kusarian," the XO mentioned.

"Kusarians. Just like the Admiral said. I hope the boys at Cairo are holding on," answered the captain, "prepare the batteries, remember everyone, this battlecruiser is dedicated for long-range combat. Use mainly the Mortars and the cruise missiles. 'Spatial CQB' is not fit for her." he finished while passing his hand on the command console in the middle of the CIC room.

"Engage at will!" the captain ordered.

"Damn it... Our hull is punctured. We've been had. We counted on them using capital ships," the captain said to his XO before being cut by an officer, "they're all over the radar, I'm counting at least 8 fighters and bombers, augemented with a gunboat. The damn cloud is disrupting our abilities to see!"

"Engage the gunboat. Our ship can still fight, and do her job." the captain said. A flurry of Stonebreakers missiles and Mortars flew, many missing. The ship did miss a critical component after all, its modified and advanced targeting system. Parts of the calculations needs to be done slowly. The gunners on the turrets continued to fire, but the energy kept being used for the shield. All the while, various shots rang throughout the ship when striking her. Some piercing right through her hull. "All wounded personnel, please head immediately to the infirmary in the center of the ship," an automated system reverberated throughout the empty halls and corridors of the ship. Everyone was at their battlestations, or wounded, or killed. It was not the time for this, not even the time for triage.

"The Kusarian gunboat got stuck!" a gunner mentioned, before the captain shouted, "fire every thing at it right now before we can't!" The battlecruiser halted before continuing, regenerating a bit of its energy. A few seconds. Only a few. Before firing a cruise missile. A direct hit. The gunboat was immobilized. Its shield were down. The Mortars then pierced right through the gunboat, putting it out of action, "at least we did something, we held the line," the captain said.

"Our ship cannot do much more. The ammunition -- missiles and rockets are almost out. We need to stop. Our hull is also mostly gone. Check the red lights on the board!" pointed the XO while pointing his finger at the large diagram of the ship's, with lights everywhere, signaling the sensors, almost all of its outer shell was at least depressurized. But the crew made it.

"That makes it two." the captain indicated, the other being a capital ship driven out to cower into the cloud, "the enemies are fleeting. What's left of them at least." I didn't know we could manage that.

THE FOLLOWING HOURS

"This defense was arduous, but we made it. We've suffered a few losses. But Fort Carthage, Akabat, and our crew, is alright. We managed to defend Fort Carthage, but don't celebrate. We've lost people, comrades-in-arms, And the enemies won't stop here. Neither will The Core, the Kusarians, and certainly not the damned Nomads. We have much to do. First, repairing our home." he finished, while passing his hand on a hastily-repaired laser that struck right through the hull.

The Ma'at-Sekhmet did its best. And it showed. While not stellar in its combat, the battlecruiser and her crew managed to help defend Fort Carthage, so that The Order, and Humanity, can see another day.

(//i'm sure there's a lot of grammatical, syntax and misspelling everywhere, I'll make sure to correct them. For now it's the best I managed to write. My imagination didn't fail me this time, so I took the opportunity.
