Biography:

Early life

The 11 February 810 A.S, Setsuna was born on Kyoto Base as the youngest child in a family of Blood Dragon loyalists. Her parents were devoted to the cause of the Blood Dragons, fighting for a better Kusari.

As she was growing up, the striking features of Setsuna were not going unnoticed. Indeed, her silver hair and striking blue eyes was rare. It was also a strange because she was born from parents that both had the usual kusarian feature. Brown eyes and black hair was the usual traits someone would have. Despite this unusual look, alike her brothers, she was raised with a deep sense of duty and reverence for the legacy of the Hideyoshi Shogunate.

People of the community took Setsuna's traits as an anomaly and not only her parents were puzzled, but everyone. While some whispered that her appearance was a genetic mutation caused by the isolation and harsh conditions of Kyoto Base, others believed it to be a sign of destiny, marking her as someone special in their long struggle.

Despite this, Setsuna was mostly teased by her older brothers, calling her out 'snowflakes'.

The culture

Setsuna was deeply influenced by the culture and philosophy of the Blood Dragons on Kyoto. When she was young, she was taught to honor the Hideyoshi Shogunate, seeing it as a symbol of justice and honor. She was raised with the principles of Bushido, which focused on loyalty, courage, and self-sacrifice, shaping her sense of right and wrong.

Living on Kyoto taught Setsuna how important was community and teamwork, as everyone relied on each other to survive in their isolated and resource-limited home. She learned to be resourceful and to live simply, avoiding waste and valuing what little they had.

Influenced by Zen ideas, she learned to accept the impermanence of life, focusing on the present and finding strength in the idea that nothing lasts forever. For her, the rebellion was more than just fighting. It was a moral duty to bring honor back to Kusari while combining tradition with new ideas for progress.

Her daily life was meditation and training to build discipline, clear her mind, and stay connected to her purpose. Ceremonies to honor fallen comrades and ancestors strengthened her ties to her people and their cause. The stories of the Shogunate and Blood Dragon heroes, passed down by elders, inspired Setsuna to see herself as part of a greater destiny. These teachings shaped her into someone who saw the fight for Kusari’s future as both her responsibility and her purpose.
Bushido Code Wrote:
  1. Righteousness (義 gi)
Justice is the most important virtue. A true samurai does not attack the enemy without an important reason.

  2. Loyalty (忠義 chūgi)
Loyalty is the seconnd most important thing in life. The samurai should always be loyal to his master. The samurai should also believe his duty to protect his master is the meaning of life.

  3. Honor (名誉 meiyo)
A life without honor is not a life. If a samurai makes a mistake, he should honor his name by committing suicide.

  4. Respect (礼 rei)
A samurai should always respect his enemy. A samurai respects his opponent before and after the fight. Even if a samurai kills his opponent, he is very respectful to the corpse.

  5. Honesty ( 誠 sei)
A samurai never lies. “Deception” does not exists in the book of a samurai.

  6. Courage (勇 yū)
A samurai fights until the end. A samurai is never afraid of anything. He is not afraid of death. A samurai is always brave because he fights for something he believes in.

  7. Consistency (誠 makoto )
A samurai never changes the path. He is like a dragonfly, he always moves forward, he never moves back.

Among the various skills she was taught, composing haikus was one of them. However, she often struggled in this area and found it challenging to create one. Every day, she practiced martial arts, with a particular fondness for kendo. Known as the "way of the sword," kendo involves wearing protective gear called bōgu and using a bamboo sword called a shinai. In this discipline, she excelled and even surpassed her brothers in skill.

The training

The training to become a Blood Dragon pilot was not the easiest ones. Indeed, Setsuna’s training was rigorous and highly disciplined, designed to prepare her for the challenges ahead as of being a part of the Blood Dragons. She practiced martial arts daily, focusing on kendo, where she learned precision, control, and the philosophy behind the "way of the sword." Flight simulations were a regular part of her routine as well, sharpening her reflexes and combat tactics in space.

Physical conditioning, including endurance and agility exercises, kept her body prepared for demanding missions, while meditation sessions helped her maintain mental clarity and focus. She also studied strategy, Kusari history, and Blood Dragon ideology, understanding both the tactics of war and the moral purpose behind their rebellion. Her training extended to practical skills like ship maintenance, ensuring she could survive and adapt in the environment of Kyoto Base.

Even nowadays, Setsuna aims to perfection herself further and learn new tactics so she can make herself worthy for the cause.

Setsuna's philosophy

Setsuna has an unique way of thinking. While following the Bushido Code and all the philosophy her masters taught her, she forged herself this way of thinking:

''If my enemy is beyond of my capacities, I shall then team up with the other pilots.''

The idea behind this is yes she can die for the cause, but not with stupidity. In the way Blood Dragons see things, she was mostly approving, but in 834 A.S, things needed to be more progressive rather purely traditional. More the actions than how Kusari should be ruled. As for sacrifice, it was indeed noble. The tale of Ozu stated he was a promising politician before he joined the Blood Dragons and his actions to assault Tekagi's fortress influenced Setsuna. Never she stopped to make such great actions one day.
