Starfliers personal log - set to be openly readable to Starfliers

835 AS / 02 / 24

It's another day and this is the start of my personal log and memo dump. Figure I should do this considering how much I fly around to keep track of everything despite severely disliking leaving personal logs due to a possible security risk in case of breaches, hacking or other "fuck-ups".
Anyway I've set this up that every other Starflier can read this on purpose.

I am currently writing this while being in Orbit around Escher within Cologne. My current objective is focused on Rheinland Space before heading into the Omegas.
The last ping I received from the Sol was regarding a Charting Report for Omega-48 so I will have to head there eventually to align my goals with my duty. It's still a bit funny to consider that Originally I am not a real scientist in the sense all of Starfliers are with my origin being based in Medical Nature from the days I've spend on the Resheph longer ago, that is why some of the Art Collective on Tanegashima started just calling me Doc as if they were a bunch of grey rabbits.
I will swallow up my personal dislikes to be part of Sol's crew as it fits my way of being within Sirius the most. To cope I will just send our Leader McKenzie more Asteroid Field guncams. I know he favours them even if I am unable to grasp the appeal of rocks floating in space - Maybe he has history with geology, should ask him some day once the Sol manages all hurdles to move out of Inverness.

Anyway, the recent update on the Mirrodin includes a Matrix to allow full-on Starflier services even if a request regarding such may be rare compared to "can you guys chart this or that".
Doesn't matter in the end - I am new and I have to prove myself even if I just do it for my own inner peace.

Another entry. Gosh were do I start? I did my recent assignments, hopefully within reasonable time. McKenzie didn't really specify.
I'm recording this after assisting with piloting the Auriga back to the Sol while carrying some Iridium. Science needs funding and an empty trip with a ship that has a decent cargo hold is a waste.
Good that my lacklustre experience in moving the Arsinoe-1 on her last few moments helped here. Smaller sized vessels are less complex in terms of pure piloting or I am just not suited for anything remotely bigger. Eh, it's a crew effort I guess? Can't say not that it truly matters.
I got a new task to look into that "weird blib" in coronado so I should move the Mirrodin there soon.

And with this my internal navigation system has Liberty, Kusari, Gallia, Bretonia and Rheinland registered properly for any future charting work. The Sigmas, Omegas and Omicrons are still to be re-entered as my map files from my previous vessel weren't compatible with Starfliers software. Mostly due to them being outdated. My Memory serves as holder of old data sheets for as long as I can possibly remember. We'll see.

I am curious that I didn't get more work uploaded to me. Either the Sol has all hands full with the upcoming procedure of moving or I am out of range? Ah well, Kenzie will reach out if he wants me to work and I will keep up with sending position data.

I should add that I will have to restock soon. Water and Oxygen can be purified from outer sources but my draugr is too small for a hyrdroplant due to... reasons. Food and a bit of medicine should end up in my bag tomorrow if I get a few good stops on the way to the Liberty entry point to the Omegas.

For the record: I purchased an older Kishiro beacon for position uploads and adjusted it to the Draugr frame. With this I can offer full on service in Starflier manner unless it's racing or Anomaly-Stripping but those need specialised tools anyway. Anyway the Freelancers who sold it did a good job assisting in fitting it to the Draugr. When I start with the Sigmas to enter Omicron space I should stop by Tanegashima again and have a drink there.

Seems like a busy time is coming. I will have to learn how to fly Liner if the need arises. Been a few years since the last time of sitting on a school bench or "active driving school".
I wonder how such things are handled with Orbital Spa & Cruise, personally I am lacking experience with them.

A bit of trade between the Sol and Freeport 14 should suffice before I head over to Curacao.
I also read an internal notice about a engine being twice as fast as my freighter. A shame that it's not compatible since it would speed up charting work a lot.

I'll stop here: Useless rambling about what may be isn't productive, above is just the mandatory occasional entry that I've agreed on doing.

Out of school first thing on my table is acquiring and formatting data. Welcome Home to me!
My desk must have missed me with the paperwork on it, at least my mailbox has an empty cache right now due to Lead Rock-picture-collector being busy finalising everything regarding the Vector. Well everyone around me is very motivated since it took a long time from the drawing board up to this point from what I could read in the logs that were before my time here.

I will keep track of the other current topic, the Sol and where to possibly move it from where it is now. "Keep your eyes open" is all we got it seems.... *sigh* Well, let's do exactly that and strike once we spot something.

Paperwork, Paperwork.... Where is the shredder?

*in-audible swearing occurs*

Time for a glass of brandi, the cheaper stuff to not get too distracted. Planning all the stuff among the teams for Sol's move is pure pain. No wonder it sat for long in this backwater system.
Though it's a worthy mention that OS&C's Regent will prove useful soon. McKenzie hat them already started to get the standardised Starflier treatment in regards to the internals. It just takes time to connect all wires.

Starfliers... where Patience is everything.

*a good sip of brandi*

A shame everyone from top to bottom is too busy right now.

And before I forget it: the Tournez I grabbed from GMS works as foreseen... with a few smaller issues mostly based in the fuel. I can't remove the limiter as long as I have to feed it a mixture. Just something that I have to keep in mind until the engineering team figures out a round-about approach or I find some hidden baguette button that magically unlocks it. I probably should have spend a bit more time with the sales team when I grabbed. Shame on me.

*humoured chuckle at the end of the log entry*

Personal Project - Argentum

The Argentum will function as my personal support craft using the "Dunlin" modular framework from Newport.
Nothing can beat a "Dunlin" in it's size class in terms of modularity and repairability, Outfitted with an extraction mining array to harvest and probe resources available to it's size it will prove beneficial.
A personal talk with my former co-workers on Tanegashima let me procure such a vessel with ease, though it needed some fixing as it was a used one.

The main purposes of the Argentum will gravitate around availability and moving items needed for research, including venturing out to more distant places to get hold of the required goods. It will not be a conventional ship such as our recent purchased Regent-classes to bring personal or minerals between places. The numerical properties of the Argentum show that it is inferior to our upgraded Regent-classes in pure mercantile sense and this is intentional as the cargo size difference among other hard-points are exchanged for general use and improved shield capacity. A summary follows below:

Company benefits:
► Very low maintenance costs
► Generous cargo bay of 2435 units
► Modularity allows for device to overcharge a regular shield boosting survivability in dangerous space
► Extraction Array for resource harvest and probing as long as the ship size can be sustained with it's mass
► The Starflier standard engine will be adjusted - H-Fuel is not accessible everywhere, it needs to be able to be feed with anything

Untested potential:
► While the "Dunlin-class" has space in it's framework for a docking bay I will only be able to test later if said bay will actually be fully functional - having the option to service our CEV- and ORV-classes is a bonus I would not want to miss out on

Drawbacks:
► With the shield boost the Argentum will be unable to provide beacon service, the reactor being so highly makeshift will not be able to give a constant influx of energy to help a beacon to work as intended

Personal Project - Argentum - Additional Notes

I visited Newport to see one Dunlin moored. It raised a few concerns on my end. The mix-match patchwork style while offering ease of maintenance shows flaws that I cannot ignore right now, mostly in terms of sustain for scientific equipment among the lack of more room for possible crew members that tag along.

I will have to reconsider it. Good thing that Pearsall brought up her end of plans, it made me realise some issues in my thought process for this personal goal.
OS&C allowed us use of their ships. Dorado was it. While it being too small for my goal a Regent is too pricey. Maybe there is something in-between, maybe better manoeuvrable than the "patchwork corvo". After running numbers a bit I will reach out to them again.

Personal Project - Argentum - Adaptation

As spoken with Oribital Spa & Cruise the Arngentum became a Democritus,

The ship now being used while systems are still updating slowly and steady. Mostly flown by me and Hal the cargo bay of 1.500 units along the Mining Array is what counts here mainly in this stage. Internally and externally closed up, we tried to copy the principle of HazMat Containers, just in slightly bigger scale and with different materials. It works but is certainly not perfect.
We downgraded the modern ship-controls to an outdated module I bought under the hand from Bornholme, to allow me to recalibrate it manually in a way that it is not intended originally. The result is as planned, a ship of that size being able to be operated by at best 2 people instead of needing more. Well with exception of engine room workers for when it needs some care.
We currently have 7 people on the ship, not counting Hal or me, as when we get on 1 or 2 get off days.

A mention is that a while Orbital did the best job imaginable in comfort and all requested parts, the ship areas we or they did not touch as much are really bare bone right now. There are parts were we even do not have lights on at any time cause they are just not needed right now. Whole corridors locked and only visited once a week for internal maintenance checks.
The good thing: We don't have to worry about where to put repair or cleaning items.
