I just moved my character from the starting freighter into an Eagle to start getting back into missions.

One of the turrets from my freighter automatically mounted on the Eagle, and I was able to buy and mount a couple of Barrages.

The other couple of weapons I bought were "loaded into cargo hold" and I was unable to mount them. After two tries (and losing half the value of each weapon at resale) I thought I had better ask.

What weapons besides the Barrage are compatible with the Eagle fighter? If it helps, the remaining hardpoints on my ship are all marked " elite fighter weapon", which is not a designation I remember from Back In The Day. In fact, I seem to remember both weapons and ships specifying a numeric Weapon Class level back in the early days but that doesn't appear to be a thing in Discovery.

Hey there, and welcome to Discovery.
Your tech compatability always depends on your ID. You can find your ID oon another page of your inventory. You most likely use the Freelancer ID, which does not allow military grade weapons or faction-specific weapons.
You want to use civilian weapons. A few examples are: Flashpoints, Debiliators, Purple Goddess Chainguns and Moonblasters. Those should work well with any ID.
But you can also change your ID to fit a ship/weapons you like. E.g. Liberty Navy for Liberty guns. Just make sure you read your ID lines, they are the guidelines for what you can do.

Were the weapons that you were unable to mount fighter guns or freighter turrets? The Eagle can mount one freighter turret, which means the game will let you buy infinite freighter turrets, but is only capable of mounting one of those, meaning you'll have to use regular fighter guns for the rest of the slots

1) Weapons you can mount depends on your ID. Explanation how to find compatible to your ID https://darklab8.github.io/fl-data-disco...patibility
2) And Guns/Missiles you can equip depend on your hardpoint types available at ship. Explanation how to find compatible guns is provided here https://darklab8.github.io/fl-data-disco...chardpoint

Combine those two methods and u will see all compatible weaponry for your ship+ID

So the algorithm is
  • Go to ship details Tab at https://darklab8.github.io/fl-data-discovery/
    • at top right selecting your ID
    • Selecting Eagle and copying its hp_type of hardpoints
  • Going to Guns or Missiles tab and pasting copied hp_type into Search-filtering bar.
    • Seeing all available weaponry. Trying filtering for all types of hp_type the same procedure to see all possible guns
    ^_^

That actually did help. I hadn't realized that some weapons would be faction specific until you pointed that out. Still used to rep based purchase issues from BitD, I guess. And I did notice, on a second look, that if you buy an incompatible weapon you get the full retail value back when selling it back to the dealer, so I didn't actually lose any money in this.

I am a little unclear on the part about editing your ID for different weapons, though; are you saying I could tag myself as Liberty Navy, buy and mount military weapons on my ship, and then revert to a Freelancer ID and retain those weapons? Could you walk me through a bit of that when you have a moment?

Thanks ! I do believe I had tried to purchase at least one bomber weapon. I think I'm mostly squared away now, I just need to find some better weapons for four of my hardpoints (currently sporting 2 class 4s and a mix of 1s and 2s, need 3s).

You can swap a navy ship back to being freelancer, but it would be bound to freelancer weapon tech again.

Thank you for that.

Do rep hacks purchased in-game affect this at all, or does that only affect where you can fly most safely at?

Rep-hacks/bribes purchased will take effect, but not permanently override the rep-hacks from your ID
