Today we’re announcing something a little different: the introduction of @Storytellers.
Storytellers are players who have been given access to a number of server commands and asked to operate as Game Masters (in the DnD sense, not the 2020 Discovery sense). These are people who were noticed because of their passionate and wholesome approach to the game, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing what they do with these tools!
If you are familiar with Entity and the stories they’ve told, you will already understand some of the capabilities these Storytellers will have. The intention is that they will be running roleplay arcs through spontaneous events and interactions that are not forecast in advance through the forum. These can involve a blend of in-game and forum RP (and you may have noticed some new red NPC forum accounts already!).
Many of these events are intended to provide a more personal, character-oriented “slice of life” roleplay experience than official server events generally provide. As a result, these arcs will often be improvisation heavy rather than scripted, progressing based on who is present and how players interact with the Storyteller.
To help this system work effectively, the server has also enabled Onboarding. This allows users to opt into roles, including the @Event Shenanigans role. This will grant you access to #event-notifications.
When a Storyteller is about to begin an encounter, they will drop a `@here` ping for people who are online, and make a Universe announcement via the console in-game.
Please note that Storytellers are not server staff, and so shouldn’t be contacted about rules issues, story development, or associated issues (please continue to harass Administrators or Developers for those!).
Our new Storytellers can introduce themselves here if they want to - unless they want things to be a surprise!
