Well, this may have not been much of a problem in the previous mod versions, with the Freelancer rep being so hard to get, and many people just giving up on the idea. Now, however, with the new bribes on Barrier station in Coronado, getting the rep is just a matter of money.

But there is still a problem: the empathy towards the other factions. Killing BHG and Zoners, or doing missions for the unlawful factions will sink your Freelancer reputation. The most problematic situation is that of the Pirate ID's, which can use the Freelancer tag, but they cannot reflect their hostility in the rep chart towards the lawful factions, because that will cause their Freelancer rep to plummet, mostly because of the Bounty Hunters Guild. Also, there are freelancers out there who take contracts against the BHG, and being hostile to the NPC faction is required.

So, my suggestion would be to set everything that's linked to the Freelancer reputation to 0.00. It's just a matter of minutes editing those, and I'm sure it will save some players a lot of hassle.

Agreed. Until then if you've neglected adjusting your rep because you're afraid of losing Freelancer reputation, remember to fire courtesy shot at the NPCs before engaging your opponent.

We could perhaps leave Freelancer rep linked to Zoners, though, because not everyone has the cash to afford a double bribe.

It's actually cheaper. The previous way of getting the Freelancer rep was a painful long road. You had to take quad Zoner bribe and maybe BHG, then do a metric ton of missions for them. Then you'd need to work on dropping many other reps, which inadvertently went to 0.90, especially the BHG Guard one.

So yeah, I suppose paying 1 million ain't that bad after all.

I'd suggest leaving it linked to Zoners as it is, and simply removing the tie in to BHG. This should prevent Freelancer rep from going hostile "by association" to most unlawful groups, thus solving this problem.

Allowing Freelancers to kill Bounty Hunters actually makes a lot of sense anyway. Most have little respect for BHs--though they may be feared--and killing BHs shows criminals a freelancer is not necessarily an enemy to them.

Taking bounties on BHs makes a lot of sense for those so inclined.

Why would you? I mean, it's up to the player if they want to be friendly with the Zoners or not, really. Freelancers are individuals, they don't need to be forcefully tied to anyone. Some Freelancers may have not even ever come in contact with the Zoners, such as the ones from Gallia. That being said, I believe all the ties should be removed.

Well, leaving at least one tie to a reputation is needed so that people can't permanently screw up their rep with Freelancers. Another deal is that Zoners are not a faction, they are a label for a particular brand of Freelancers. Saying that you're hostile to all Zoners is like saying you are hostile to all Freelancers - neither makes a huge deal of sense. So that's why I would leave the rather small tie with Zoners.

If we are to remove all ties to all reps, then somebody would need to code in Freelancer missions on some base, but that would need a lot more work than simply leaving the Zoner reps tied.

Well, indeed if you take only one bribe, you're screwed, because the NPCs will not offer you another one, unless you drop it to neutral.

My suggestion would be to add Freelancer missions on Barrier station, against the Hostile faction (admin one), that would represent individuals with bounties on their heads, offered by various private employers.

I agree but I'd also add Freelancer bribes to some other bases (probably Freeports) so that characters who are currently hostile to Freelancers due to a large number of Bounty Hunter kills can fix their rep.

True, some people have already compromised their Freelancer rep, so having some bribes on Zoner Freeports would be a good idea.
