I used a cruiser after a long time and it took me too long to kill some fighters. Am I bad or are capital ships bad in general? If possible, could you tell me the standard equipment?
Capital ships are good at different roles depending on the ship itself and the loadout that you run.
What loadout were you using? To kill fighters and other snubcraft, it's better to use Solaris turrets and a faster cruiser with decent firing angles so that you can chase down fighters with fast projectiles.
To kill NPC snubcraft quickly, I like to use Tachyon lances and impacts when they spawn, since they usually just travel slowly in a straight line and those turrets kill them very quickly. Good luck killing player snubcraft with those things though (unless you're a god and they're very distracted).
You would usually look to have double Tachyon lance (or whatever's the offensive slot count is for your ship), Impact cannons for defensive slots, a couple flaks and primary/solaris turrets for the rest of the slots. Cruiser disruptor, CM.
See that your flaks have coverage as wide as possible.
