New Tokyo, 28.03.836 Mandatory Military Service, Expanded Imperial Armed Forces and KOI mandates passed by Sunrise-Hanazono-Ninkyo coalition In the early hours of last friday night, the final votes on the status of a compound bill regarding the authority, rights and responsibilities, and oversight of the Imperial Armed Forces and Kusari Office of Intelligence passed with a 64% approval rating. The intended effect of this bill was to strengthen Kusari's capabilities versus hostile actors, within and without, by giving the Imperial Armed Forces and Office of Intelligence less limitations and more control over their own operations and instating a mandatory military service for young men. This speech from the Honored Mother gives us more details on the extent of the mandatory military service. "We are beset on all corners by threats, within and without. On our borders, great nations seek to crush the Kusari people for their own gain, insatiable giants who demand to eat until there is nothing left to eat. Within our borders, a more dangerous threat, violent and malevolent people who act on nothing but hate. A deep-rooted hate for Kusari, only amplified by the dishonor of their betrayal of their own people. When beset by savages from without and terrorists and murderers from within, we are left with only one option: to fight! We cannot bow our heads for their blades. We cannot kneel to the tyrants and the disgraced and the debaucherous. The purpose of the Military Service Mandate is not to strip you of your freedom, it is to give you the means to protect it! It is not to cast you into the godless fires, but to give you the honor and strength to stomp them out! The Military Service Mandate comes in two parts. The first part affects each residential citizen. That is, those born and raised in Kusari, those descended from Kusari ancestry and who have lived in Kusari for three years, and those from outside Kusari who have lived in Kusari for ten years, or five if they are the spouse of a Kusari residential citizen, all of whom must not be involved with an organization outlawed by Kusari or hostile to Kusari, or have been expressly pardoned by the State. The first part states that all citizens will receive firearm, hand to hand, and basic combat piloting training. The second part affects residential citizens between the ages of seventeen and twenty-seven, with exceptions for those currently hired in un-vacatable positions, the critically disabled, and those exempted directly by the State. The second part states that the aforementioned citizens will enlist for an eighteen-month term with the Imperial Armed Forces, or apply for a fifty-four-month career with the Naval Forces. Enlisted soldiers will receive standard enlistment salaries, benefits associated with full employment, and regalia befitting their rank and commitment, ensuring honor on themselves and their family. Career soldiers will receive the above, in addition to the capability to climb the ranks of the Naval Forces, extensive special opportunities, extra retirement packages, and more. Also included in the Naval Forces Career is the opportunity to train in and pilot the famous and storied Imperial Fightercraft. Stand for your nation, and your nation stands with you.
