So a friend and I were talking today at school, and we were wondering if anyone actually knew how the wreck reset system work?

As far as I know, the wrecks only reset at the server reset (or reboot from a crash).

IMO, the wrecks should be reset based on a time system. Say someone scavenges a wreck, then the wreck would not respawn the cargo till something like 4 hours later. This way the wrecks don't only reload after the reset, and everyone in all the time zones have a chance to get their goods.

well, the one thing that i would have to say to this, is that all of us current dealers would loose a fortune in weapon value.

and, people would still wreck camp. doing this would just make it so that code prices from dealers dropped about 80%

Good! Codies should be looted free from wrecks not snagged by wep dealers and sold at inflated prices. I have had enough of wep dealers complaining when the rest of us suggest that we should have a chance too...sheesh.

I guess I would like it to be random. If you're flying about and you go past a wreck, if the server's been up for more than 30 minutes it's just not worth dropping out of cruise to shoot it. Which is sad. Stumbling over a wreck is one of my favourite things in Freelancer. But as it is, you fly past it, and just remember it. If you ever want it, you can go fly out there next time you're around for a server restart. Loses all the romance. But if the wrecks came online once a day, but at a random time, I guess it would be fun. But yeah that's probably a real pain to program, or laggy to have it there all the time or whatever. Also there would be much a-bloo-bloo-bloo-ing from weapons dealers.

I think codes should only reset after a server resart, otherwise, if everyone had codes, then they would become pointless. They are ment to be extremely rare, therefor, extremely expensive. changing that would not only put arms dealers out of buisness, but would remove another little slice of RP from the game.

There's no RP to it. A while ago I wanted to get 4 Heimdalls. So over the next 4 days I sat 4 different ships on the wreck, waited for the server to come up, pewed it and ran it back to base. That isn't RP and it isn't rare. If you really want to just do that, it's lame, but it's easy. The idea I said would actually make them harder to farm.

By RP i mean the arms dealer companies, that i have had some really great RP with in the past (especially the 'lawful' ones that are prepared to deal with corsairs!). You want to get rid of all that?

I'm not sure how making codenames rarer would decrease the demand for weapons dealers. It would, however, make them have to work for their job.

Im not saying anything about making them rarer, just not changing the current reset times(after server shutdowns), because, from what i have seen and found, is that you can do all the wreck camping you like, you will only end up with a couple of codes and some very dissapointed and often angry people around you. The arms dealers who have managed to collect dozens of codes and who you can have some very fun RPing with should not be cast aside just because some people want some archangels without having to work for them!

I think that maybe Monte and Benjamin are agreeing in general....but arguing over a side issue...I think...

Any who, I reckon whoever said that wrecks should reset randomly was closer to the mark. It would slow harvesting and make them rarer. It would also spread them out across the player base.
Each wreck should randomly reset itself, once every 24hrs.
I know it's probably impossible, but I think that would be the best way.
