How to make a planet in PS

I experimented a bit and I made something of a planet in PS. But the part I'm really trying to get at is other thanks commonly found on a planet. Such as land masses, Oceans, and clouds. I found a few tutorials but they don't speak about clouding and detailed planet making.

Earth-like planets are best made with satellite shots of Earth as a texture.

Clouds can be added as a seperate layer, bending it like the normal texture. It takes some experimenting.

make sure you give it a softer look since there is probably some atmospheric interference.
Good trick to give the illusion of a bigger planet.

'm thinking of Layer masking (and feathering) along with color change in two or more textures to make the surface

Look for some really high res granite textures. They make good rocky planets.

I dont know about planets but if you find a picture of mud that dryed and cracked it can make a very nice picture of an exploding star.

That would be an exploding planet actually Jazz. Stars don't have any solid matter to crack and fragment like that.
