So, here's an idea. In real life, every star i unpredictable, unloading massive waves of pure energy into the space around them, shooting off magnetic pulses into far distances.

The idea that you should dock while an ion storm as a server restart gives rather interesting rp ideas.

Here are a few ideas then:

Every hour, at a random time, a random system has a solar flare. Maybe a hint is given to :The system of %system is experiancing an encresed solar activity, advise caucion:
We could add all kinds of effects.

For example, a magnatic impulse from this "blast" goes across the system and has a cruise disruptor/EMP effect. Knocks you out of engine kill or cruise and damages all player and npc ships for 5000 shield damage. :Warning, sensors have indicated a flare, dock immideatly" After 10 minutes the blast itself hits with, say 500 hull damage.

These are only small ideas, really, maybe you shouldnt have hull damage or all starfliers would die and all.

There's a new technique available to trigger fuses from flhook. Might be able to use this to create ship effects on demand and then damage the ship or something.

Well, it's a system-wide damage trigger at a certain time or a random interval, considering it has a min/max value. So you don't get two of those storms one after another.

It would show the freelancer space as it should be, hostile, unwilling, cunning. Pirates are not the only thing to worry about i think.

What about a plugin that actually changes the object's stats? Like a solar object, suddenly increses it's usual corona for 15k for a short (2sec) time. That would be a real "flare"

We may not have the source code, but the hook does give a lot of possibilities.

"Real" space (space that contains the kinda things you're talking about) actually contains very, very few of such things, due to it's vastness. Hell, Colorado contains a planet that spews lava to a height of "hundreds of Kilometers"...yet Denver is still inhabitable...

The only system I could really see this working in is Omega-11 (where harmful storms are alluded to)...but we don't really need to make that system any more deadly.

'Sides, FL ships would be designed with the hazards of space travel in mind...if you can withstand a focussed beam of laser/tachyons/plasma, a mere solar storm would be nothing.

Also, from a gameplay perspective, these would end up being either monotonous, regular events (for established players), or random, terminal events (for new players)...imagine if you've never seen one before, and you've just loaded your shiny 2k transport up with your life's savings...only to lose it all due to a random event...I had enough trouble with NPCs whilst building up, let alone something so vastly removed from the original game...

No.

And i dont know how its done in flhook, my only experiance with triggers is with Unreal editor. We made a clan map which had a network trigger sequence triggering the killzone damage value every 5 minutes, so the players would not camp or camp the weapons.

No such things in freelancer, no, but adding such rp detail could be fun. Could not. Depends really.

Would it be wise to add random radiation damage to Jumpholes while passing through them? That way, they would be risky to take, except some main ones, that is, ones that lead to systems without jumpgates. Also, nebulae could have a wide range of anomalies. Electrical discharges that act as an EMP are I think more likely in a nebula. The stars are, in my oppinion more likely to make a direct mechanical or heat based damage.

A reminder, a small flare from our own sun is worth a few thousand million nukes. So yes, they are quite annoying and cannot be put next to weapons.
