Alright, let's say my character is "50 Cent" after he's been accidentaly trapped inside a cryogenic freezer and somehow transported via Liberty sleeper ship and awakes in present day Sirius. Say he's smuggling some synthetic mary-jane through New York when an LPI donut-case stops him, and my 50 Cent answers:
"Bitch, I ain't goin back to jail."
Or let's say I am RPing an Order Commander ex-Pimp and instead of saying "Scanning. Scanning. Keeper fighter class ship detected. Engaging," I say, "What the f**k you doin on my turf, b****. I'm gonna cap your c**ksucking jellyfish ass."
You know, like in the movies?
But seriously, am I to understand that all the Corsairs who murder traders for refusing to pay 10 mil aren't allowed to cuss? Is Freelancer so popular that 12 year old boys go to the bargain-bins of Wal-Mart and find their favorite copy of Digital Anvil's last spaceship video game, instead of pwning n00bs in Halo 15?
EDIT: I'm not saying I'm a fan of the F-bomb, but for a twenty some year old who's constantly surrounded by people of at least the same age, I find that the role playing gets a little unreal when a Rogue pirate tells me: "Stop right there, good sir. Now you give me that cargo or I will have to destroy you."
You know, I swear in RL like a pissed off whiskey bent sailor whose shore leave was just cancelled. But here, where children AND adults who find that sort of language offensive play, there is no place for it. It's really not that hard if you get pissed off in-game to say whatever you want out loud to your screen, but keep them fingers away from the keyboard, 'cause a lot of people don't like dealing with it. It will get people quite mad and lead to more rule breaking (re-engagements, etc.).
Just don't do it, it's really not that hard. :nono:
You ask me why Im weary, why I cant speak to you.
You blame me for my silence, say Its time I changed and grew.
But the war's still going on dear, and theres no end that I know...
And I cant say if were ever...
I cant say if were ever gonna be free.
I will repeat pretty much what I said in the other thread, in-rp mild swearing is passable. But dont take it too extremes, like it or not there are younger players on the server as well as the fact that RP arguments should not decend into OORP name calling.
If you do wish to in rp swear, make it mild in local chat with no random players present, I also in reality swear like a trooper, but I do not nor will ever see the need to type like I speak, if I did, you would not understand my accent
One of the reasons I hate team speak is I have to repeat every sentence to be understood, does my head in.
"What the f**k you doin on my turf, b****. I'm gonna cap your c**ksucking jellyfish ass." Can be said in far better as "What the hell are you doing on my turf, I'm going to vaporise yer hull you damn squidy!"
As a twenty something, I expect you can adapt, that does not mean that you have to speak like an uber polite victorian gentleman. Be creative, for a role player, a little creativity can't be beyond you?
And yes, I have some "soup" in my pocket right now. I mean, who DOESN'T carry bowls of soup in their pockets every day?
Yea. Thats right.
****
now **** off.
Anyway, serious time.
ban them. Ban them all. The next time I hear someone swearing on the server, I shall send them a nice little pm telling them to stop. If they don't, they will either see heavy motars flying in their general direction. Or cheese (sorry mal, i stoleth your cheese cutting strategy).
Ooodles of ways to insult in character without resorting to curses. Some even having the same inferences as the curses, but not an actual curse.
Just gotta learn to adapt.
