As I said in a previous post, I have no problem being pirated as long as there is some RP involved. So far the majority of my pirate encounters have just been "5mil or die" when I try and rp the only response I get back is "5mil or die".

When Im being Pirated and not getting any rp response back, I consider 2 things. What are my chances at a straight up fight, and what are my chances of getting away.

In a straight up fight I try to figure out how to the get the most turrets facing him and then just hit thrusters while blasting away, with 1 finger on my battery hotkey and hope for the best.

If I dont think i will win a straight up fight I will try and run. But heres my problem. At first I just tried Cruising away but would always just keeping getting CD'd no matter how many CM's i dumped out. Then I starting just Thrusting straight up and trying to Cruise away, which has worked better, but i still end up getting CD"ed no matter what.

So my question is about evading/fleeing from pirates. What tactics work. How can I get away when every 3 seconds im getting hit with a CD. I thought about using mines, no experience with them but seems if I got a pirate with a mine or 2 it might be enough distraction to hit cruise and get out of distance.

I mostly smuggle and trade so combat is pretty rare for me. So for my biggest tactic is to just "avoid" the pirate traps, but every once in awhile you just cant avoid it.

Thanks for any suggestions, Appreciate it.

Fly straight away from your target using thrusters, and use rear view or turret view to fire backwards at the pursuing target.

When a target is chasing you, he's less able to dodge your fire, meaning your shots will land more often and you'll have a higher chance of winning the fight. I've taken out quite a few attackers using that method, and the ones I didnt take out generally ended up pulling off from damage or frustration anyhow =P You can use strafe while thrusting to avoid enemy fire, though mostly you'll be relying on your shield and hopefully a decent armor upgrade to soak up damage.

If you are gutsy enough to use trade lanes, try the following:

if a lane is disrupted, position yourself as if you were just about to dock with it (right in the center on the correct side, with the front part of your ship sticking through to the other side). Keep the lane targeted while firing at the pirate in turret mode to keep him busy so you can see immediately when it comes back online.

As soon as the lane comes back online, dock with it. There's a good chance you'll get in before the pirate shoots it out (especially since the pirate is often too busy shooting at you to keep a close eye on the lane), and sometimes the pirate even shoots out the lane after you've already gone through it, meaning that to chase you he'll have to thrust (not cruise, since now his cruising would be grounds for a sanction) to the next lane, by which time you'll be long gone.

For added measure, shoot out the last lane behind you as you exit.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

Of course, if you get a really nasty pirate, they'll ram you to move you out of position when you're lined up to enter the lane.

True; they often do try this. That's why it's important to keep your guns firing- generally speaking, ramming involves moving in a straight line, which could spell death for a pirate in a fighter if he's not careful and you're quick on the guns.

that is not aloowed and ends up in a sanction for the pirate. and if you are stying still with your tranpsort at one point there is now way that the pirate can say that it happened by accident and wasnt an intentional ramming. just have fraps running or do screenshots when the priate gets close.

As a Pirate....

The good old rear view trick does not work my friends. The SN has a 2k range while your turrets have 800m

So I never bother to go close, I just set my speed to 140 and follow the poor man around.

Also, you must be one dumb pirate not to tell your trader to back off the lane.

One thing that did get me is that, people ask a trade request, you accept, the trader is behind you and all or you are not paying atention and he cruises while in the transfer window.

Only happened to me once and I CDed him isntantly.

5 million credits? The most I have ever done is 2 million... I can see why you lost so much money then.

Anyway, i've only had to defend my transport once when a Kusari Naval Officer was waiting at the Tau 23 jump hole for me. I jumped back and set a go-to for Cali Base, then held down my thruster and fired using turret mode. Luckily another smuggler was there and he helped out.

Truth is I don't think there really is a tactic, just keep moving and always have a destination to get to. If your just flying out into empty space then you know your screwed. At least point your ship towards a friendly base. Keep firing, or else they just SNAC you when your not looking. And if there at a distance and you see a SNAC shot flying towards you, strafe away from it.

[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.

[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.

The standard issue transport turrets fire too slowly for me to use effectively. I find that using class 5 faction turrets with a high refire rate (5.88+) allows you to get more hits on a target. No use having a laser that does 2,000 damage a hit when you only get a few in before you're dead.

GMG Skyblast B's are the best choice, but not everyone has an RP that suits their use. I use 4.00 refire rate Kraken 2's, which are the most potent lasers available to me without raising OORP eyebrows. They do less DPS than transport turrets but I can get more hits in a given timeframe due to the higher refire rate.:)

That's not sanctionable, if you really want to apply the general PVP rules to piracy, then you also have to consider that the trader was fleeing first, since he docked with a TL.
