(In response to Baltar)

Should Traders in roleplay, use jump holes within the Discovery Universe?

In-game, they're a 'natural' gateway to other systems, a way for unlawfuls to get around more often than not, or when Houses have not expanded into the area.

This is my personal opinion:
No, I think that traders i.e Corporation traders, would and should not use jump holes. Why? Security, and insurance. Space is a dangerous place and most large companies in the modern world, have insurance to compensate these dangers. I honestly doubt that insurers would fork out money because a trader deviated from the 'paved route/trade lanes' to take a shortcut in remote space, further away from help. But that is Corporation traders.

With independent traders, there is no black and white. They're independent, freelancer traders, as long as the cargo is shipped, its their money. But its at their own risk.

In essence to RP, Corporation traders, No to jumpholes. Indies? It depends.

Now, what are your opinions?:yahoo:

well as you said there, In RP, the trader should folow his RP, Some faction traders should follow routs that not include holes while others can use holes, and so on.

My LPI trader's run requires jumpholes.

Why? Because there are no gates to Guard systems, let alone barely-populated ones.

Corporations should not, Ageira especially.

If a route goes through an allied Guard system, I have no quarrel. To be honest, I never knew there was routes through that system

In my opinion, house corporate traders should not use jump holes since they make Jump Gates to where-ever they want to go.

And the fact that many systems with a house lawful presence are only accessible via Jump Holes is an error that I would like to see fixed.

It honestly depends on the jump hole. Corporations shouldn't know about most jump holes, but the Omega 7 to Omega 11 jump hole is less than 10k from a Daumann base and on the other side, about 15k away, is another Daumann base. That should be OK. Something like the California/Texas jump hole? No.

That's for corporations though. If it's say, independent traders, then sure, why not? They could know that they're there. In most cases, it's about the corporation not knowing they exist and where they are. And insurance premiums.:)

are you talking about guard systems? i dont know any house systems that have no access, oh right in liberty there are couple, Ontario was one as well... But it develops in time, first a system is found than they build gates and lanes.

Where do you think those IMG Trains around Falkland come from? If the corporation operates in border world space, they're bound to use JHs once in awhile. Most people have figured out that Ageira's claim that JHs are unstable are bogus, most are pretty static.

D'oh, how can I forget the lovable IMG?

But to me, I don't view the IMG as a corporation, I view them as a collection of miners and pilots, albeit a very large collection.

EDIT: Regarding the jump hole bogus thing, I still don't think that in-RP insurance wants you to fly into those holes. Wait, a sec, is that part of the story? Or is that accepted in-house-rp?

Cut it down to basics.
  • Have people always taken the fastest route possible?
    Yes.
  • Does faster equate to more money?
    Yes.
  • Will a trader take the course that profits most if possible?
    Yes.
  • Are jump-holes most profitable?
    Yes.
