Recently i started Mining in a Mining Ship, obvious isnt it?
Well after taking of with my new Ship for the first time and thought: "Man that ship is crap"

Many people fly that Ship, I know. But how about a new one? I have different points what i dont like.

- It handles way to fast, the turning rate is like a Percheron, and this is a Massive Ship with Massive Wings. Its almost too fat for the Trade Lane Ring.

- The massive wings get stuck in Asteroids and make flying in an Asteroid field really hard. You almost cant dodge stones with those huge engines on the side.

- The Turrets: Many of the newer People use the Mining Ship as Trading Ship, so they have ten mounted Type 4 Transport Turrets, and those turrets are place that always 4 of them can shoot into one way. Means that ship has no 'Dead Angle' like the Outcast Cruiser for Example. It has only 2 Turrets protect the bottom of the Ship.

- To be honest the Ship looks like a Giant Space Duck.

How about to make House Based Mining Ships? So for Bretonia for example a Percheron with Arms would be nice. I think the SCRA also have their own Mining Ship. I know it's a massive thing to make a new Ship, and i would gladly do it myself if i could model.

And for the End:

Mining Ship is not amused.

I think at the moment, it wouldn't be too bad to just nerf its turning to almost 0. Then, it could just about be just used for mining.

I don't mind the design, in fact I rather like it at the moment.

Not Amused is not amused.

I agree with you on this topic, but on a side note they are very large, so very easy to shoot:D.

[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

There is a very basic problem with what you suggest. The fast way to pew the pewables is to go into cockpit mode, and blast them with a pair of mining lasers. If the turning gets nerfed, it's much harder to turn, and far less pewables get pewed.

However, I like your idea of different mining craft. But what would be more logical would be craft for corporations rather than houses.

The reason that the mining ship is maneuverable is because you have to turn quickly to be able to mine well. It actually makes a bit of sense, given the extreme off-axis locations of the engines on this ship - it could probably turn rather quickly if it were "real" because of this, so it's not too unrealistic. Of course, there'd have to be some internal inertial dampeners, but since FL apparently has artificial gravity, I don't imagine this would be much of a problem.

As for other mining ships - there are some fighters that are supposedly mining ships (Basalt for one.) I would like it if some of the civilian ships (shuttle, freighter - the homeworld stuff) were given new models based on the CSV/Mining/Repairship line and designated as mining vessels. (Perhaps, to make a new mining ship, someone could modify the repair ship's nose into a small little pod with a class 2 turret hardpoint for a mining vessel...)

These smaller mining fighters (I imagine we could call them "shuttles" because they'd be like a mix between freighters and fighters) would have the greatest mine rate, and perhaps we'd lower the mining ship's bonus just a bit. It would make sense - these shuttles are fast and small, made for precision ore extraction at close quarters. The worker bees of the mining hive, so to speak. These would have the highest the highest mine rate of any ships - but they'd just have a hundred cargo or so because of their small size.

Basically, what would become of this is:
Solo miners, you use the mining ship.
Groups, you would use mining shuttles to mine and transports to ship materials.

And on the side, I've always loved how the mining ship looks, and it was the first ship I ever bought in Discovery Open SP. Iz teh pwnage. Although it's a little too skeletal to have the cargo space that it does - if you look at it, there's actually not a whole lot of body to it...

I like how it looks. Kind of like the Repair Ship on steroids. And after eating a whole lot, possibly in a diet of rocks.

I'd like to see a Hessian Mining Ship along the lines of the rest of their ships though. Or maybe a BMM-built one and then a Daumann/Kruger-built one? Then non-corporate miners could use the standard one!

There are factions which should have their own Mining Ships. As said the Hessians and BMM. The IMG and GMG should also have their own. Its the same with Stations, Mining Ships are used all over Sirius.

The Turning Rate doesnt really fit into the Size of the Ship. It's like the Queen Mary II would turn like a Fishing Boat. I mine in Turret view. Why? Because turning with that huge thing in an Asteroid field is harder than moving around and being blocked by Stones.

In RP the Mining Ship would slowly move in the Field and nom all the big stones, but that's not possible. So i sit there in Turret View and Shoot at the smaller Rocks.

The GMG have their own transport. Don't they do the actual gas mining with those fancy miners, then pick it up in said transport?

On that note, did you ever try to use the Mining Ship in 4.84? If you want to talk about agile (as it was bouncing between rocks and flailing).

Worse, try taking the 4.84 mining ship through the badlands. After the New York pirates hijacked my ship and forced me to offload the cargo at Buffalo, it took me 3 minutes just to get 15k from the base.
