Hi all. Just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting a new business and will be working a second job to boot in a few weeks here so I am going to be retiring from Disco. I will have time now and then to tinker with a model idea (I am working on a couple now) and can still read the forums on and off.

Apologies to those "entwined" in any RP I was doing. Really wish I had time to post everything I had set up--was just getting it ready. Sigh. Well, real life ya know.

I need Seth to tell me where to send the cash he loaned me and if anyone out there has loaned me cash and needs some I'll try to equitably distribute it.

For those curious (and those always demanding that I should "explain my Rp to them), here is the RP that Tinkerbell and Company were doing:

Tinkerbell has had the same RP since the third day here--in the sense that he was warning of a Wild-Nomad attack. I had played in NY the first night I was on when the Keepers raided it and I thought they were a great mancing evil. It made me wonder, "What would my poor little Junker do seeing these all powerful aliens decimating the house navy a few clicks from his Rochester home?" I decided to build his RP on that concept--a driven Junker worried about a Nomad Armageddon.

I found Yanagi with its Wild attacks a day or so later and thought, "What a great place to flesh this idea out" and that same day, some character passing by was RPing about "missiing his wife". I'm more a "practical (wargamer background) type RPer so to avoid spending thirty minutes RPing how much I "love my space bride" I jokingly said, "I never miss my wife--I keep her frozen in the hold so she's always with me."

After the joke, it occured to me that the Hispania remains were still present and had thousands of cryochambers aboard--surely a Junker could salvage one and get it workibng again (this is all before Gallia and cryoccubes mind you). Oniros was at that point going to collaborate with me to RP this (he left unfortunately for real lfie as well) so I began a comic book idea (three pages was all I had time to finish--posted at end here).

The comic was titled "Pieces of Wait" and is about the effort to reconstruct a Rheinland battleship based on plans developed from studying the wreckage in Sigma 13 as well as actual Rheinland battleships. The second installment was to be, "The Frozen Bride" and would detail the account of a young Tinkerbell capturing a Nomad blaster from a downed Wild andboastingly letting his new bride examine it. Unbeknowest to him, it had still living Nomad tissue on it and she became infected--he froze her in the hope one day they could find a cure...hence Tinkerbell's research on the Wild. This would have happened in his early twenties and I RP him as severnty years old now. his desire to help his wife has been supplanted in great part by a desire to keep the Junkers safe as well from the same threat. Imagine what it would be like to live on Yanagi and have to see men killed by the "body and voice" of a former loved one flying a Wraith and inhabited by an alien...returning weekly to take and kill more.

I knew for the research to be credible and have substance to it I would need a lot of resources and wanted a good stock of Nomad brains and the means to defend them once gotten. That is where the need for the Rheinland battleship came in. The Rheinland battleship was logical due to the Sigma 13 wrecks and I had a good RP basis for it. It was essentially to be the "USS Constitution" of the new "Junker Congress". Tinkerbell was always portrayed asa revolutionary idealist looking to preserve the Junker way of life by protecting it and helping plant the seeds so it could grow into a greater future society. Basically a George Washington but with a little bit of ego and Junker pragmatic views of ethics--sort of along the line of "Londo Molari" in Babylon 5. So the RP was the ship would inspire Junkers to stay united and believe in greater things for themselves and maintain the warning of a great menace (Wild-Nomads) to keep the focus present.

Oniros was going to co-play this with me and his English was not the best in writing so we developed the angle of "house books" (a basic idea from old scifi and Soylent Green in particular). These would be elite guardsmen who's wealthy families had adopted nations based on their dominant genetic heritage from old earth. Oniros's family was France and practiced the French language and social behavior. I had to give a little more learderly air to "Tinkerbell" so I became "Vladimir Tinkerbell" using Romania to imply Vlad Tepes or "Vlad the Impaler" (Dracula). The name was a play to show the tongue in cheek nature--Tinkerbell and Dracula--of my creation. I also was listening to the line in Shriekback's song, "Big Black Nemesis" that goes, "Tinkerbell and Jack the Ripper.."--so easy enough.

So a fledgling Junker democracy, preperation for war with the Nomads and research to gain and edge and protect Junkers was the basic goal. Unfortunately, the politics on the server of establishing a faction, arguing points, battling pundits and maintaining respectability made my RP always overshadowed by faction debates, critques and disagreements. It took away from the time I simply wanted to set up and demonstrate the RP and diverted it into never ending debates every other week--otherwise I'd have set up the RP with a lot of public flourishes long ago.

The ooc intent of the Congress was also simple: to make a fun faction new players could jump into at whatever level they were at--something I could not find when I arrived here. Again--unfortunately--an "official" faction has to represent and maintain order and I had to build a lot of "structure" to satisfy community expectations. Overalll we did that--and Rudo and Hawk and members have continued that (I think). To this day I have people pm me in game from their battleship or wealthy trader thanking me for helping them start--that was always fun.

I had a grand idea for actual politics but alas it is a massive effort and I never had time to set it up as I would have liked. By making Tinkerbell a "diplomat" I had hoped to be able to work back to that concept in time. I also hoped to build a "Junker bridge" to gallic rp so factions would have solid reasons to be involved there. Moving the barge from Puerto Rico to Gallia was to give the Keepers and das Wilde a rationale they could use when they felt ready to get into Gallia. One of the things I considered was actually "baiting" the Nomads to come to Gallia in order to make sure they understood how serious a threat they were. In fact, I hoped in time it could be a full blown war between the Crown and the Keepers--just my delusions of grandeur and I was going to talk to the other factions after setting Gallia up for my Junkers.

Scornstar and I were developing the faction ideas for the Congres and his Harvesters at the same time. Each of us needed a good defensible system (I for defense from the Nomads and he from the Zoners) and we both had come to Puerto Rico. Neither of us knew the other's RP at that point and we each ordered the other to leave or be destroyed. The Harvs had better ships and guns at that point so I cut a deal after some idle threats and we becasme "allies" (by necessity on the Junker part).

THe current battleship I flew was gotten solely to obtain Nomad major brains. I was told by an admin I could not use the Rheinland anymore (despite the SRP approval) so instead flew the Zoner ship. On a practical level, same effect...on an RP level, regretable. The point of my research was to lay out my idea of a technology that could interupt the parts of Wild and even Nomad brains that connected to the Mindshare (I had a very solid research proposal to show how I would do that and it involved no smoke or mirrors--actual things I could do with materials on hand). It also would allow Junker pilots to be able to block out Nomad-Wild telepathic signals. The latter was not of much practical use but the former was to be used to attempt pyschological warfare on the Wild we had hostage in our shielded ship (the Barge) to convince then that they had become "less light and more dark" becasue of human bodies and minds they inhabited and to convince then the "real" Nomads were abandoning them. I was looking forward to the Wild and Nomad respponse to this--never got to the stage of opening it up. Bummer.

So it was fun, sorry to go, hope to still contribute "off the board" help and everybody try being a little more trusting and inviting in other's RP so they can have more fun too, eh?

Thanks all. Seth and others contact me and I'll keep an eye on the PMs for awhile.

David a.k.a. Tinkerbell

P.S. Admins are not the problem here--a little erractic on past occasions in some cases--but they really do a good job overall. Progressively so as my time here has gone on.

So if you have read this far, you should see that I developed my RP naturally by "thinking in character" and responding to actual RP events around me as they occured. I was never out to make anyone play my way or take over--despite a few opinions to the contrary. I personally abhor "full disclosure in advance" of everything you are doing--it takes the mystery, fun and suspense out of what's happening. Unfortunately, trust is an issue with some and they demand it or feel threatened if it isn't given. I didn't waste much time trying to appease those attitudes. This is everyone's server and everyone should be trusted to have an RP until they deonstrate conclusively otherwise. I believe mwerte has that in his sig and it has always been my policy.

I may get to a point at some point where I can pop in--probablly have to be a pirate so I can hit and run--but I am reallly going to be busy.

I am:

Advertising, Graphic Design, Web Design, Proof Reader, Market Development, Customer Service, Sales, Billing, Managment, Owner and Courier--throw in Dad and Husband--and it's a chore. Right now I am beginning set up so I have snips of time still but it will squeeze down more and more as I approach startup. This is my second startup business and it going to have to be really well thought out in this economy. Lol--and did I mention I am trying to write a book too? (I may be crazy).
