Could it be implemented? Would it make sense?

Something that would lower the effective targetting range of scanners, and scanning range?

For instance, you mount it instead of armor upgrade, it takes an ungodly ammount of space in your cargo hold, and then lowers the range of all other scanners around you by say 80%?

So, cops can't target you, unless you're very close, eh?

Would add some more complication to the game, eh? Also, I allready see some cop being angry to whoever "invented" the stuff, as he can't get a fix on those no good smugglers!

Make it take a % of the cargo hold, not a fixed ammount if it can be done, or a big ammount of hold, so it is not abused (not too much at least). Maybe even make it use power if somebody gives a good idea how to do it.

Oppinions?

Thank you for reading

Not really. CM is countermeasure to missiles, a decoy that takes missile to another direction. ECM is a complex electronic warfare package that jamms enemy comunications, detection systems...

It might be interesting, but all I can see it doing is making finding someone who doesn't want to be found even harder, and it's already bloody hard to find someone who doesn't want to be found.

basically ECM is a cloaking device that doesnt make you invisible to the eye, only to scanners. Probably wont happen, though it's an interesting idea.

Not much need for it.

You can just role-play it out.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

It is an interesting idea, and it would be a great addition to the mod. However, I think our limitations due to the lack of source code on this matter will make it difficult to execute. I don't see a fesable way of implimenting such a thing. It would effectively have to be a dynamic nebula that follows your ship and decreases the scanner range of anyone who enters its' range.

I think it'd be interesting to have certain ships able to mount these kind of electronic warfare suites. Adds a new dynamic to strategy and tactics - i.e. make them mountable only on certain ships (For example, take some freighters) with electronic warfare designed/designated as their purpose, and expand the idea a bit more so you don't just have jammers, but also the possibility for higher powered/longer range scanners on these ships. Puts a new role in teamwork, a new important friend to defend, and a new way of finding targets or evading detection.

Well, yes, but you can still blocade the key points in the system. The base for a smuggler to dock, jumpgate/hole...

Something like that. I had in mind an idea that 50% of the time you would be invisible to Discovery scanner with the best ECM suite there is. Make you use more the "Mk I eyeball"

Yes, but I believe this would make some new avenues of Role Play open. Just as you can RP a salvaged cruiser by slapping only Mk I armor, lower shield grade and basic guns only..

Yes, and as I recall nebulae are bugged. That is, while out of it "jamming' range, you can see inside it. So it probably wouldn't be implementable without the source code, but nevertheless, there's the idea.

Heavy CMs? They do the trick sometimes, I hear, but I still have to learn how to use them properly

That's what I would like most. Imagine a fleet battle, with dedicated ECM ships inside. Could make ambushes, eh? Or, a bunch of fighters/bombers with ECMs instead of armor plating.. easy to kill, IF you can see them. Perfect stuff for Ace pilots to pack, eh?

Thank you all for your comments, this probably won't get implemented due to game engine limitations, however, we can always hope, can we?
