I made a vigilante character, and followed all the guide lines of the vigilante ID. I have the Roc Bomber, no criminal weaponry, and I avoid the Omega and Omicron systems. However, I still receive criticisms from other players...

One such example is the IFF

The Vigilante ID states that a lawful IFF must be used, and as such, I used the BHF IFF, hoping that my RP story could be an expelled Bounty Hunter. However, I still receive much flak from players....and switching to a Police or Trading Company IFF could be worse...

Vigilantes fill out a very special RP purpose in Discovery. If you have seen Batman, or the Watchman, they are prime examples of Vigilantes. However, it does bring up the question of whether vigilantes can destroy smugglers after their contraband is confiscated, or whether they can go free.

And then the quasi-legal factions, like Junkers or Zoners cought smuggling brings even more questions

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A much better IFF for you would be Freelancer.

A Freelancer IFF fits a good range of non-faction professions, whereas the guild will be rather unhappy if you use their IFF and you aren't part of them.

As for the role play background of being an expelled hunter, I think its a very good background for a vigilante :)

EDIt; if you think about it, a vigilante *Is* a very specific type of Freelancer.

The BH IFF is possibly the best to use because, so far as a criminal is concerned, attention is immediately drawn towards it. If somebody has possession of or is actively doing something that is illegal, somebody with a hostile IFF may well be rather interested in such. Therefore, any IFF that is hostile to a criminal is suitable in this sense so it is illogical to complain about it. A Bounty Hunter might be concerned, but then again vigilantes are not in it for the money.

If the suspect has dropped contraband and then has nothing illegal, the vigilante may not have a right to attack them. As for police, they can levy a fine in addition to confiscating or destroying the cargo, but a vigilante cannot. Maybe if it is quite obvious that they are going to immediately purchase more contraband then it would be within the scope of roleplay to prevent them from doing so.

As for factions, it really doesn't matter who they belong to (vigilantes are not concerned about police or military, so we're assuming they're either civilian or criminal but it doesn't matter which). Vigilantes are completely unaligned, unless you consider the IFF. It only matters about what the opposing player is doing, what they are carrying and where they are. As an example consider that Blood Diamonds are not illegal in Liberty, so a vigilante should not demand such cargo there (unless maybe they have a Rheinland Military or Police IFF, although they should not operate in Liberty in any case).

As with a lot of game-play, reasoning and constraint should prevail, but where it does not then problems will hopefully be just as rare as vigilantes.

There's a certain amount of thought that says the ID is broken.

That said, a BH or Freelancer IFF will quite possibly get you the most flak as they are licenses to operate almost anywhere.

A tighter focus might work better, either specific contrabrand anywhere (perhaps he has an unreasoning hatred for Cardamine users or software pirates or whatever else) or pick a house lawful tag and just operate within the territory of that house.

Well, almost every one I stopped started yelled at me going, "You have BHG IFF! You cant do this! Fix your IFF! Bounty Hunters can't do this!"

I could get a police IFF, but that would mean a new RP story....maybe a expelled officer who went to far...

However, I cant imagine the more flak I would get for a Police IFF....maybe the Freelancer IFF would work better...

As for the ZoI I fly all over Sirius, I'v stopped Slavers in Rhineland and Tau, Artifact runners in Kusari, and cardi haulers in Liberty Mastadons....so Freelancer might be good...However, I have no how to get a Freelancer IFF....do they have a base?

Barrier Gate in Coronado, get a double bribe and you've got an instant Freelancer tag. Might then need to use the /droprep command to get rid of your BHG tag.

Not necessarily, that depends entirely on the particular vigilante.

And none can have all of Sirius, since they can't hunt pirates or unlawfuls in the Omegas or Omicrons (though technically nothing prevents them from going there, they just can't hunt there).

Quote:Pilot carrying this ID is a member of the Bounty Hunters Guild, who:

Can fulfill lawful bounty contracts
Can trade and escort traders
Can hunt pirates and terrorists across Sirius
Can demand cargo or credits from ships carrying contraband and destroy them if they refuse to comply
Cannot ally with any unlawfuls
Cannot participate in any unlawful actions
Cannot use any Liner except the Prison Liner
Allowed ships: Fighters, Bombers, Freighters, Gunboats, Prison Liners
You see, BHs can demand contraband. Vigilante ID can do this too, so no problem with this.

Quote:Players using the Vigilante ID MUST have a lawful tag and their equipment and area of operation must also reflect their tag.

Quote:Freelancer ID - Everywhere - Lawful

Freelancer IFF with Vigilante ID is fine.
